Bahrain, Oct 9: The Cathedral of Our Lady of Arabia is set to conclude the St Arethas and companions jubilee year with a special ceremony, marking the closing of the Holy Door. This significant event will take place on October 25, at 10:30 am, at the Cathedral located in the heart of Bahrain.

This is one of the most important celebrations in the Vicariate to commemorate the presence of the 5th century Christian in the Arabian Peninsula. This momentous occasion marks the conclusion of a year-long celebration dedicated to the life and legacy of St Arethas, a revered figure in the Christian faith.

This jubilee year, which was inaugurated on 4th November 2023, has been a time of grace, reflection, and spiritual renewal for the faithful. It has celebrated the life, virtues, and teachings of St Arethas, who is revered for his profound commitment to faith and teachings.

Following the opening of the Holy Doors and throughout this year, the faithful were encouraged to make a pilgrimage to any of the sites to gain plenary indulgence, throughout the jubilee year.

The closing ceremony will be presided over by Bishop Aldo Berardi O SS T Apostolic Vicar of Northern Arabia, alongside clergy of the AVONA region, a solemn eucharistic celebration, followed by the ceremonial closing of the Holy Door, symbolising the conclusion of this sacred observance. This momentous occasion serves as a reminder of the grace and blessings received throughout the jubilee year.

The event will also include special prayers of thanksgiving and a reflection on the significance of the jubilee year, marking the transformative experiences shared by the congregation. In addition, the Holy Door of the Cathedral, which was a symbol of mercy and hope during this jubilee year, will be closed following the mass. The Holy Door has served as a reminder of the call to faith and the abundant grace offered through prayer and community involvement.
