Mangaluru, Oct 11: Mangalore University's decision to double the admission fee for its Tulu post-graduate course for the academic year 2024-25 has significantly discouraged students from enrolling, raising concerns about the program's possible closure, according to the Tulu MA Alumni Association.

At a press conference on Thursday, Subhashchandra Kanvatheertha, president of the association, said, "Initially, the annual fee for the Tulu MA course was set at Rs 15,000. In 2020-21, Mangalore University reduced the fee by Rs 4,000 following an appeal by students to support the local language. However, the fee has now increased to Rs 22,410 after three years, with the university citing a shortage of financial resources as the reason."

Treasurer of the association, Prashanti Shetty Iruvail, added, "If the university introduces opportunities for Tulu PhD studies, it would be greatly beneficial."

Vice president Harish Amai, former student Chandrahasa Kananthur, and others were also present at the press conference.
