Bantwal, Oct 14: A woman died after the car she was traveling in plunged into an arecanut farm, which was six feet below road level, following the driver’s loss of control at Bambila on the B C Road-Beltangady state highway. The driver sustained serious injuries and is currently admitted to a private hospital in Mangaluru.

The accident involved three passengers. The deceased, Bhagirathi (58), a resident of Kodialbail, was killed in the crash. The driver, Roopesh (40), suffered critical injuries and is undergoing treatment in the ICU of a private hospital. Roopesh’s wife, Suchithra (33), sustained minor injuries.

The Chevrolet Spark was en route from Punjalakatte at around 4:30 a.m. when the accident occurred at a bend near the mosque in Bambila. Bhagirathi, the sister of PWD engineer Gopala, originally from Kodialbail in Mangaluru, was identified as the victim.

Roopesh, the son-in-law of Bhagirathi, hails from Tumakuru. The family was returning to Mangaluru from Tumakuru after celebrating the Dasara holiday when the accident took place.

Locals report that the bend at Bambila has been the site of multiple accidents, raising concerns about it becoming a hotspot for crashes. Melkar traffic SI Sutesh visited the scene and registered a case.

Non professional drivers must never venture into night time long driving... Night driving is a special skill... Ordinary drivers only survive due to sheer luck from unforeseen incidents... always start after day break and end your day's journey before sunset... People try to save a day's office leave or hotel stay charges not knowing the price they are likely to pay... also these novice night drivers are headstrong and believe too much in their skills... RIP to the unfortunate victim...
