Udupi to host 51st ‘All India Oriental Conference’ from Oct 24

Udupi, Oct 14: Udupi will host the historic 51st session of the All-India Oriental Conference (AIOC) 2024, organised by the Bharatiya Vidvat Parishat in collaboration with Sri Puttige Math and Central Sanskrit University from October 24 to 26.

This prestigious event, with roots dating back to 1919, will take place under the blessings of Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji of Puttige Math, bringing together scholars from across the country to engage in discussions on India's rich intellectual and cultural traditions.

The conference will feature more than 1,000 research scholars presenting papers on over 20 themes. The topics range from vedic studies, philosophy, and linguistics to ayurveda, yoga, and traditional Indian knowledge systems. This year’s event will also include a special focus on Bhagavad Gita studies, aimed at discussing its contemporary relevance and significance under the guidance of Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji.

Eminent scholars from across the country have been invited to participate in the conference. During the Sanskrit kavigoshti titled, ‘Vadirajayuvakavigoshti’ young men and women present their original Sanskrit poems. This event offers young poets an opportunity to showcase their literary talents in the ancient language of Sanskrit and promises to be an attraction during the event.

As a part of Pandita Parishad ‘Vidamanyayuvapanditaparishad’ for all young scholars and an exclusive session for women titled ‘Kalyaniyuvapanditaparisad’ is organised.

The event will be inaugurated on October 24 in Rajangana at 10 am. Each day of the event, a yoga session will be held from 6 am to 7 am. Krishnaprasadam will be served for the noon meal and dinner. The valedictory programme will be held at Rajangana on October 26 at 4 pm.

The key highlights of the event are presentation of research papers on diverse topics such as linguistics, philosophy and darshanas, manuscriptology, Bhagavad Gita studies, technical sciences in Sanskrit and more by scholars. Special sessions on vakyartha abha, kavi goshti, and pandit parishat sessions will provide a platform to young scholars to show their prowess in traditional Sanskrit debates and poetry.

Attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy a performance by the Abhinava Dance Company, which will present ‘Tat-Bharatam', a celebrated production that pays homage to India's cultural heritage and the conference will include a book fair, featuring rare publications and resources, along with an exhibition space for publishers and authors.
