Udupi: Reaping Quick Rewards - Mechanized Paddy Harvesters Boost Efficiency

Udupi, Dec 1:  This year, mechanized harvesters are being extensively used in farming activities by peasants in the coastal district who are engaged in paddy cultivation instead of depending on manual labourers.

The majority of farmers who have grown paddy on plateaus across undivided Dakshina Kannada district have taken an earnest interest in mechanized harvesters this year.

The farmers prefer the mechanized harvesters that can harvest the crop, separate the paddy, and fill it in sacks.  A mechanized harvester takes 30–45 minutes to harvest one acre.  The harvester that does the job of 30–40 farmhands in an hour has been causing unemployment in remote villages.  The farmers are relieved of have to pay daily wages to farmhands, five measures of rice, tea and snacks twice a day and Rs 20 in cash to each.

The farmers who have grown paddy in plains have to depend on farmhands since harvesters cannot maneuver in paddy crop grown in stagnant water. The farmers who were previously worried about transporting paddy in the past, are increasingly availing the services of mechanized harvesters. Some farmers fear that the mechanized harvesters will damage the hay during the harvest. The farmers are looking for help from technocrats in designing a loader that can store the hay in the existing harvester, informed sources.

WHAT A CHANGE IN TECHNOLOGY. AND ALSO LESS MAN POWER & LESS LABOR. ALL THE BEST FOR ALL OUR FARMERS ALL OVER THE COUNTRY TO ADOPT THIS NEW TECHNOLOGY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

Cultivation and it's benefit, it is become zero now a days to the farmers. We talk about the machines in the agriculture sector because of labour crunch,a change always we see in this nature.People looks educated, looks for better living, they migrate to cities searching for jobs with better wages. It is the theory of survival in each case,it is the agriculture, the farmer, or the labour itself. Some comments here it looks a total lack of experience among us, about the farmer and his hardship and difficulties, what he faces himself nowadys.Only 'GOD'can save the farmers with good mansoon in each time as expected to an extent.

I fully support view of Harsha Malhotra. We need first 'Roti/Kapada/Makhan' for poor people. People who are earning abroad still need additional money to be derived from there land. Let people who are working abroad come and plough themselves along with others, situation of labourers will be solved automatically. Only solution to introduce "Jan Lok Pal Bill" it will help each and everybody. No commentators are interested to raise problem of corruption. Government is looting day and night. Not think of Poor people. I rate you of your comment with open heart.

Alwain it's request please do not involve with personal matters of other's who they are/what they are doing/where they are belonged. We are only interested in subject of article to be discussed. It's my way of thinking. Let Lord Bless you and your family. Amen.

One of the best comments from Mr.Harsha/New Delhi. It's true. Low wage earners will loose their job and their family will affect tremendously. State/Central Govt. should look after them of there pity condition. Main reason increase of crime rate is due to unemployment. Poor become poor day-by-day. On other hand UPA needs FDI is to approve and killing common people. India's condition for 50% population going worse by worse. Adivasis condition is not good. Still living below poverty line.

Farmer will lose grass. Again u need laborer to move paddy n grass to warehouse. Hard work of cutting, transporting n smashing will be saved. The fields should be big enough to move the machine freely n there should be road connection to every field. Good machine. How much the machine will cost? Any Idea?

Excellent. What you said is absolutely right. When we snatch food of poor people, definitely crime rate will rose. That's why now-a-days in our twin cities looting/kidnapping/murder is on high scale. Uncertainity prevails in society between rich people and poor.

I agree many young gals/boys now-a-days join naxalite to earn there livlihood. Mr.Alwyn may be you are having another view. I am sorry to state that. You can survive without cultivating field. How about Poor People who are depend upon it????

Dear Mr. Harsha Malhotra, sorry to say you have a surname which is not common\familiar one from DK or Udupi district. I am not sure what is your knowledge of rural area in these district, as I always read weired comments from you.

As a child\young boy I had gone thru the pain of going early morning to labourers house and begging them to come to work in our paddy fields. When we grew up we made sure paddy cultivation is stopped. It is not only the story of my family, every farmer in these two district will say the same.

Please stop doing such absurd comments without knowing the reality. The mechanised farming is blessing for the farmer, It will increase farming in these district and lot of uncultivated land will be harvested.

God Bless you and God Bless Karnataka.

I had been to a study tour last year to Australia and we had an oppurtunity to go to the wheat belts and remote areas. I was not only suprised but shocked to see the size of land land they cultivate and crop. 5000 hectares with about 10 people. The harvesting machinery is the size of a 3 floor building manufactured by John Deere. I was quite confused and maintained my silence as they were only talking in hectares in regional areas while we talk in cents and a very few in acres and talk in sq meters for housing plots in cities while we talk in sq feet.

Like Ready Mixed Concrete Trucks, few businessmen farmers should provide this new Mechanised Paddy Harvesters to the farmers on hire.
Like in the developed countries, the farmers should co-operate and create one huge paddy field by joining smaller paddy fields. It will reduce the expenditures and can create better marketing options that in turn will increase in profit. Unity is collective ideas and more work forces that will make farming easier.

Developed countries are using this method since very very long time.Thank God at least our farmers will have now peace of mind.In recent times due to non availability of workers or the hefty wages, lot of paddy growers converted their land into arac nut plantation, and the beauty of paddy field started to diminish day by day which is very sad. This machine will help us to solve lot of problems.Saving time and money is important in everyone's life
