Mangaluru: Bangladeshi national held with fake passport faces intense interrogation

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Oct 15: The interrogation of Mohammed Manik Hussain, a Bangladeshi national caught at the city's international airport attempting to travel to Dubai on a fake Indian passport, is ongoing. However, police sources report limited success in obtaining more information from him.

Manik has been in police custody for a week, and authorities are probing his journey from Chennai to Mangaluru, then to Moodbidri and Udupi. They are also investigating his connections with friends living within the jurisdiction of the Mangaluru police commissionerate. Police officials are confident they will gather more information in the remaining four days of his custody.

Meanwhile, some labourers with Aadhaar cards issued in Bihar, residing under the Konaje police station limits, are also being questioned, but their records have been found intact.

No inquiries are being made at Mangaluru's railway or bus stations regarding the many out-of-state labourers arriving daily. The purpose of their visit is not being questioned by authorities.

Many labourers speak languages other than Hindi, which are not understood locally. Bus drivers, conductors, and auto drivers are encouraged to inform police about such passengers if they encounter them.

In rural areas, Hindi-speaking labourers are increasingly employed in industries, fishing, and agriculture due to a lack of local workers. However, verification of their identities and backgrounds is not being conducted.

"Our border security forces are either asleep or taking bribes, as these Bangladeshis have entered India. They should be caught and dealt with at the right time, otherwise, it will become a problem. Whoever issued him fake Indian passports should be prosecuted.”
