Udupi: B Y Vijayendra criticises state govt's neglect of coastal districts

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (TP)

Udupi, Oct 16: B Y Vijayendra, BJP state president, has alleged that the state government has neglected the coastal districts, with no ministers, apart from the in-charge, visiting the region in over three years of the current administration.

Speaking at the Udupi district BJP representatives' meeting in Ambagilu on October 15, Vijayendra highlighted that during former chief minister B S Yediyurappa's tenure, each constituency received grants of Rs 2,000 crore. However, he claimed the current government has not allocated any funds to the district, and both the chief minister and the deputy chief minister show little interest in districts beyond Bengaluru.

Vijayendra accused the chief minister of fostering division among castes and appeasing anti-national elements. He criticized the government's withdrawal of cases against those involved in the Hubballi riots, questioning, "Are the police not considered human?"

He further claimed that ministers and officials are not receiving their salaries on time and called for the chief minister's resignation. Vijayendra also predicted that the Congress party would not survive after Siddaramaiah.

Leader of opposition in the council, Chalavadi Narayanaswamy alleged that the Congress came to power by deceiving the public and has failed to fulfill its five guarantees, suggesting that the collapse of the government would serve as a ‘sixth guarantee’. He added that senior Congress leaders often face legal issues, requiring bail to avoid jail time.

Leader of opposition R Ashok remarked that development has stalled under the current government, with even ruling party members making accusations. He echoed Vijayendra's claim that the Congress party would struggle to survive post-Siddaramaiah.

MP Kota Srinivas Poojary noted that around 12 lac BPL (Below Poverty Line) cards have been cancelled under the guise of implementing the ‘Gruha Lakshmi’ scheme, warning that this could halt benefits for the poor.

Kishore Kumar Kundapur welcomed the gathering, while Dinakar Shetty Herg compered the event, and Raghavendra Kundar delivered the vote of thanks.

Notable attendees included MP Capt Brijesh Chowta, former chief minister D V Sadananda Gowda, BJP candidate for the Legislative Council elections Kishore Kumar Puttur, state general secretary V Sunil Kumar, MLAs Yashpal A Suvarna, Gurme Suresh Shetty, Kiran Kumar Kodgi, Gururaj Gantihole, Harish Poonja, MLC Pratap Simha Nayak, BJP Mangaluru division convener K Uday Kumar Shetty, former minister Pramod Madhwaraj, and former MLA Haladi Srinivas Shetty.
