Puttur, Oct 18: A new branch of the Bank of Maharashtra was officially opened at the Vigheshwara Complex in Puttur, on Friday, October 18, marking a significant milestone for the region’s banking sector.

Speaking after lighting a lamp and inaugurating the new branch, former MLA Sanjeeva Matandoor said Dakshina Kannada district is a hub for the banking sector, known for its disciplined operations, which has led to significant growth in the cooperative sector.

He emphasised the importance of disciplined banking practices in driving growth within Dakshina Kannada’s cooperative sector. He highlighted that the Syndicate Bank has transformed many lives in the business sector and contributed to financial stability. The bank's role in promoting agriculture and industry in the district is crucial, he added.

With numerous businesses in Puttur, the growth of the banking sector is evident. He commended Prime Minister Modi’s Digital India initiative for facilitating easier banking transactions and expressed hope that locals would benefit from the new branch of Bank of Maharashtra, wishing it to become the number one bank in Dakshina Kannada.

Madhu Manohar, Municipal Commissioner of Puttur, noted that the banking sector has significantly contributed to Puttur's development as a district centre. He emphasised the collaboration between government schemes and banks to ensure that benefits reach intended beneficiaries.

Suchith D'Souza, the regional manager of Hubballi of Bank of Maharashtra, mentioned that the bank has provided excellent service for 90 years, operating independently without mergers. He expressed confidence in opening four more branches in the future, prioritising quality service to customers.

Sudheer Shetty, the building owner, offered his best wishes for the event. The inauguration was attended by various dignitaries, including bank manager Sudarshan A, retired bank officer Navush Bhatt, and others. The programme was compered by John Kutinj.
