Udupi: Platinum Jubilee Block of St Cecily Institution Inaugurated

Udupi, Dec 3: The inauguration of Platinum Jubilee Memorial Block of St Cecily’s Composite PU College, Udupi was held on December 2. College Day was also celebrated on the same occasion.

Provincial Superior, Carmelite Sister of Karnataka Province Sr M Linette inaugurated the new building. While deputy commissioner of Udupi M T Reju unveiled the marble stone, Episcopal Vicar of Udupi Fr Dr Baptist Menezes blessed the new building.

Parish priest, Mother of Sorrows Church, Udupi Fr Fredrick Mascarenhas, correspondent of St Cecily’s Institution Sr M Shaila, principal Sr Rosy Mendonsa, PTA president B Gopal Shetty, students, parents, ex-Cecilians were present on the occasion.

M T Reju addressed the gathering and said that his school had played a vital role in shaping his career. "90 out of 100 will go along with the flow. But the remaining 10 will go against the stream and change the world change. Making a difference is the need of the hour," he added.

Fr Fredrick Mascarenhas released the annual project report of the college and honored the high school student achievers in academics, sports and cultural activities in various levels taluk, district and state levels.

In his address Fr Fredrick said, "This institute has a long history, and has produced many great people for the society along with imparting moral values. Focus is more on academics, but along with that we require moral values and social responsibility. Without them education is of no use. Corruption is everywhere, but if we educate the students with moral values at the root then corrution can be eradicated."

Sr M Linette honored PU College students achievers in academics, sports and cultural activities in various levels taluk, district, and state levels.
 
Sr Linette called upon the students to become responsible citizens of the nation. "Education gives livelihood, status, and enables one to become successful. Education helps us build up character," she said and wished bright future to all the students.

In his presidential address Fr Baptist Menezes told students, "Instead of going for medical, engineering or any other field, become politicians with moral values and rule the nation. This is the need of the hour. We set up Christian institutions to give value-based education and not for business."

Sr Thresilda welcome the gathering. Renita proposed the vote of thanks and Devendra Nayak compered the formal stage function.

Various culture programmes were staged by the students of the High School, PU sections depicting the rich heritage of the country, God’s love, how Mother Veronica started her mission in the form of Carmelite congregations and how they have been serving the people across the world.
