Bellary: Our Mistakes Cost Us in Bellary Bypoll, says CM

Bellary, Dec 4 (PTI): Stung by the BJP's defeat in the Bellary bypoll, Karnataka Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda today said the ''mistakes'' committed by the party in the last three years were responsible for the loss.

However, he tried to put up a brave front, saying the party has made a good beginning in the region by securing more than 17,000 votes -- from being "zero" there.

"We had zero votes there(after the party distanced itself from the Reddy brothers); now we have 18,000. I believe it's a good achievement," he said .

He said it was a mistake to give the Reddy brothers (whose protege B Sriramulu won the Bellary (Rural) bypoll today by 46,790 votes) a free run in Bellary district affairs. "No body is responsible for our defeat. The mistakes committed by us in the last three years are responsible".

Finishing third behind the Congress nominee, BJP candidate P Gadilingappa secured 17,366 votes, losing his deposit.

Gowda's said the result would have no impact either on state's politics or the Government.

Asked if action would be taken against legislators who supported Sriramulu, the Chief Minister pointed out they had already been suspended, adding, the party would take the next steps after watching today's developments.

Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly, Siddaramaiah, expressed surpise over the verdict.

"I can't believe it. It's a big setback for the Congress. We never expected this. We thought it's a close fight (between Sriramulu and Congress candidate B Ramprasad who got 27,737 votes as against Sriramulu's 74,527). Perhaps money and muscle power have worked. All calculations have gone topsy-turvy," he said.

Congratuting Sriramulu, JDS State President H D Kumaraswamy, whose party had supported him, said people of all communities have supported the former.

Sriramulu already done a damage for BJP in karanataka by winning with huge margins. Now it is for DVS and his party to repair the damage done by Srimalu. Looks JDS is the spoiler boy in this game what they played in this by election. Now DVS should forget Reddy group, concentrate on good works what he can deliver to the Karnataka people,in all the ways.Always your good works will count in each and every move you step.Hope BJP will do good works other than corruption to show the Karnataka people what BJP was and what BJP is ???.

    Ramulu Should thank:

BJP for fielding dummy candidate, Eshwarappa's Hate politics, Yeddy's skip on last day to campaign, Cool CM- DVS for his rash statements, Advani's Back stabbing Yeddy. Sushma's silence supporting Ramulu (got kickbacks)

JDS for Jameer Ahmad's Muslim vote politics supported by Kumarsami not fielding candidate (once rivals now friends?? Gowda's will finish Ramulu-Keep watching..as Karunakar Reddy says- Picture Abhi Baaki Hai)

CONGRESS helped by fielding lost compitetor from previous time. Also internal understanding at center for BJP's fall in south.

PITY: Ramulu is a proved Villian.. future will be horrible Kannadigas surprise everybody with the upredicted always..

    Yes as the saying goes-
Victory has many FATHERS,Defeat is always ORPHAN!
One month back I had predicted First place to Ramulu, second to Congress, Third to BJP.
I had challenged Astrologers to predict exact votes each would get, none came forward.
My predictions without any scientific method was off mark too-
    Sriramulu got 25000 more votes,
    Congress got 13000 votes less,
    BJP got 2500 votes less.
Their losses along with JDS votes & new voters who opted for known politician who was always available & mingled with them even after getting elected got all their blessings.
The Fan BREEZE will prove to be undoing of BJP's mistakes & will sweep them off their feet in next election.
Sriramulu & Reddys will be future KING MAKERS-( MY NEXT PREDICTION).

As per my observation .Sriramulu will not do any attempt to topple DVS Government as it is the very same BJP which he has built .He will build a seperate party catering to northern karnataka. If DVS is serious about this he should forget everything and concentrate on development in Gulburga,Raichur,Bidar ,Bellary etc.And one fine day one Phone call from Sushma Swaraj is enough all these votes which sriramulu has got will turn into BJP votes .Both Sriramulu and Janardhan Reddy will immediatly support BJP for sure .But Sushma Swaraj will not contact them unless they come clean against allegations done by CBI.Hence for BJP it is Sushma factor.Because the first statement after the win Sriramulu gave was that about Sushma Swaraj

A big question mark still may hound DVS that how he faces stormy Winter Session of Assembly!!Another thing is Speaker has been given notice of 'no confidence motion in him!!and third and important issue is if taken for voting no confidence motion of Speaker, do speaker overcome 'no confidence ' under precarious situation like this as there may be wafer thin majority for BJP govt. All these three issues might cost DVS to forget his BINACA SMILE for days."OPERATION KAMALA SUCCESS BUT PATIENT DIED"Virtually DVS accepted the defeat before forthcoming winter Assembly Session could start.Another one week for BJP one more testing time "MAKE IT OR BREAK IT"

Any way I want DVS to complete his term. He want to protect the rights of minorities in the state. PSEUDOS will have a set back now.

    Dear CM:
Your mistake is this time BJP failed to distribute money and alcohol to the Bellary People on time. only around 17000 voters got money and alcohol on time and they casted the vote. During our Ex-CM tenure he succeeded in all elections by distributing money and bottle. This time he failed. congratulation to Mr. Sriramulu for your victory and we expect some changes in Bellary.

Question for Yeddy.....Ligayath votes are more than 30,000!!!
Question for IShwarappa...Kuruba votes more than 15,000 votes!!!

why these BJP votes shied away from BJP????

Muslim votes around thirty plus thousand which went in favor of RAMU......that made big in fact on Ramulu's landslide victory.

DVS, certainly need to put brave face because BJP Karnataka is in very disappointing position after loosing deposit in Bellary rural bye election!!!!Yes sir,it is zero position to 17000 votes in Bellary if that satisfies BJP then it has lost hope in Karnataka as well...Your statement in this regard is too late....

Victories and defeats should be taken evenly in politics,,, so this defeat should motivate you more to do more develpmental work and less corruption....

Last but not least, I have a question for you....You think Eshwarappa's Capign brought you votes or you lost votes because of his foul mouth???

If he is BJP president during next elections,,, please ask hin to speak less/Shut up.....

The Congress and the BJP along with other leading parties including JDS need to realise that corruption has corrodaed their future. It is unfortunate that our country is being 'raped' by such big political parties to nuetralise humanity and one brotherhood in the nation.
