Wakf land controversy sparks communal clash, stone pelting in Haveri

Daijiworld Media Network – Haveri (MS)

Haveri, Oct 31: An irate mob reportedly pelted stones at the homes of Muslim community leaders in Kadakola village, Savanur taluk, Haveri, following controversy over Wakf land.

Wakf minister Zameer Ahmed Khan held a meeting on September 3, stating that Wakf properties within the Kadakola gram panchayat should be registered under the Wakf account, directing panchayat development officers to act accordingly. On September 27, ZP CEO Akshay Sridhar issued instructions on the matter, which reportedly led to public unrest and resulted in stone pelting at Muslim leaders’ houses.

Stones were thrown at the residence of Muslim leader Rafi, damaging a bike parked outside. The incident reportedly stemmed from rumors that properties would be transferred to the Wakf account, leading to evictions.

Haveri DC Vijay Mahantesh and SP Amshukumar arrived at the scene on the night of the incident and engaged with villagers. The police have since detained individuals involved in the violence, and the situation is reportedly tense but under control.

DC Vijay Mahantesh clarified, “There was confusion regarding the Garadi Mane property in Kadakola. People, misled by newspaper reports, feared that residential properties would be taken over by Wakf, prompting them to throw stones at Muslim leaders' houses. No individual notices were issued; a letter was sent for action based on an earlier list. The situation is now under control.”

SP Amshukumar stated, “We are registering complaints from those affected by the assault and stone pelting. Fifteen individuals have been taken into custody. Four KSRP platoons and 200 police personnel have been deployed for security, and a route march will be conducted in Kadakola. Miscreants broke glass panes of some houses, but no serious injuries have been reported.”

So, Wakf board can claim any land without even being appealed? This is the biggest political sin made by the party who introduced and supported this kind of law to win a few seats. People should really wake up and start acting on this injustice. So give this right for all the religions.

Dividing India on religious lines in 1947 was not enough for one party. On top of it, they created Waqf board for their vote bank.
