Parliament Stalemate Over FDI in Retail Ends

New Delhi, Dec 7 (Agencies): Opposition on Wednesday agreed to government offer to hold back Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in retail and Parliament will start functioning, media reports said.

Media reports quoted finance minister Pranab Mukherjee as saying that FDI in retail was put on hold till a consensus was

build.
CPI said that this is a "virtual rollback" of the FDI decision and the it will allow Parliament to function.

Government had expressed hope that Parliament would function normally from Wednesday, after the all-party meet on the FDI issue, after a four-day break.

Opposition parties had demanded the government rollback, and not holdback, FDI in retail.

The winter session of Parliament has seen repeated adjourments mainly on the issues of government's decision to allow FDI in retail and rising prices.
