Two Maoists Among Six Killed in Jharkhand

Ranchi, Dec 8 (IANS): Six people, including two Maoist guerrillas, were killed in three separate incidents in Jharkhand's Gumla district, police said Thursday.

Jitan Sahu, 24, axed his grandfather and grandmother to death Thursday morning at Kutasi village of Gumla district, 120 km from Ranchi. He later surrendered to the police.

Jitan had a quarrel with his grandparents -- Nagra Sahu, 70, and Sukhmai Devi, 63. Nagra Sahu threatened his grandson that he would inform the Maoists about his acts, police said.

In another incident, Maoist guerrillas fired at Udasan Nag, a contractor, near a petrol pump at Tirra village. The victim escaped the bullets and opened retaliatory fire. A woman, Akli Devi, and seven-year-old boy Kisna Bhora were killed in the exchange of firing.

In the third incident, two Maoist guerrillas belonging to the People's Liberation Front of India (PLFI) were lynched by the people of Ludgo village late Wednesday. The villagers snatched the rifle and pistol from the Maoists and handed them over to the police.

The Maoist guerrillas had reportedly gone to extort money from the villagers.

The bodies of the victims have been sent for post-mortem.
