Mangalore: Umanath Kotian Appointed President of Tulu Sahitya Academy

Mangalore, Dec 9: The state government has appointed Umanath A Kotian as the new president of Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy having its office in the city. He will succeed Paltady Ramakrishna Achar, whose term has ended.

Kotian is an amateur theatre artiste and politician. He has worked for nearly 20 years in different fields including acting, directing, and story writing. He also has the experience of working in Tulu movies and tele serials. He is a native of Meremajalu in Bantwal taluk, and currently lives in Kavoor in the city.

Currently he is the vice president of Dakshina Kannada district BJP unit, and in-charge of the affairs of Mangalore North and Mulky-Moodbidri assembly constituencies.

The government has also appointed ten members to the academy. They are, Jagannath Shetty Bala, Padmanabha S Bhat Yekkar, Prof Tukaram Poojary Bantwal, Prabhakar Shetty Bangalore, Kadri Navneet Shetty Mangalore, B V Sooryanarayana Puttur, Ramesh Kalmadi Karkala, Yadava Karkera Padubidri, Manjula Shetty Mangalore, and Durgakumar Nairkere Sullia.

Three more members are to be recommended by the current members on the basis of community or regional representation basis to the government, upon which the government will make these appointments.
