Bantwal, Nov 7: Police have arrested a man wanted in connection with a theft at the Sri Adishakti Chamundeshwari Temple in Badagabellur, under Bantwal rural police jurisdiction, after he evaded authorities for nearly 20 years.
The accused, Mohammed Sharif (44), a resident of Uddangala in Panaje village, was apprehended in Kasargod on Wednesday. Sharif was allegedly involved in the temple theft that occurred in November 2004. Since then, he has been moving between various locations in Karnataka and Kerala to avoid arrest. A warrant for his capture had been issued by the Bantwal court.
Sharif had recently been released on bail after being arrested in a separate murder case under the Manjeshwar police station's jurisdiction. He is now in judicial custody.
