Parliament Adjourned: Opposition Now Guns for Krishna

New Delhi, Dec 9 (IANS) Both houses of parliament were adjourned Friday following protests by opposition members who were demanding the ouster of External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna after he was named in an illegal mining case in Karnataka.

Opposition MPs in both the houses shouted slogans as soon as the Lok Sabha opened in the morning and asked the government to remove Krishna, who is under the police scanner for his alleged role in allowing illegal mining in Karnataka when he was the state's chief minister 1999-2004.

As BJP members demanded action against Krishna, MPs from Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh also shouted slogans demanding a separate state to be carved out from the southern region.

Speaker Meira Kumar adjourned the house till 12 noon when the din grew louder and protesting MPs refused to sit on their seats.

The Rajya Sabha was also adjourned till noon over Krishna, who on Thursday issued a statement denying the charges.

"We demand action against Krishna. FIR has been registered against him and when Yeddyurappa can be removed on the basis of FIR why not Krishna," Prabhat Jha of the BJP told IANS.

He was referring to former chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa who became the first BJP chief minister to face the police probe and also the first former Karnataka chief minister to be jailed in two corruption cases. He is now out on bail.
