Puttur, Nov 10: Uppinangady police have arrested Harish (29), a resident of Kallanda in Perla, who is the main accused in the murder of Ramesh Gowda, a progressive farmer from Perla. The murder stemmed from a dispute over access to land.
Harish, who had been hiding on a hill in Alantaya, was apprehended based on specific information. On the night of November 8, Harish allegedly lay in wait for Ramesh as he was returning home, chased him, and fatally attacked him with a sickle. Geetha, the wife of the deceased, lodged a complaint with Uppinangady police, implicating Harish, his brother-in-law Santhosh, and Dharnappa alias Belliappa Gowda in the murder.

In her complaint, Geetha stated, “My husband and Harish's family had been in conflict for the past seven to eight months regarding a water pipeline installed on the road. A complaint had already been filed with the police over this issue. The feud continued over the cutting of a tree. On November 8, my husband was heading to the temple on his bike. Not far from home, I heard his screams. When my family and I rushed to the scene, we saw Harish, Santhosh, and Dharnappa alias Belliappa assaulting my husband with a sickle. He died on the spot as a result of the attack.”
