Kasargod, Nov 10: In a significant operation, Manjeshwar police, with assistance from the public, apprehended two members of a dacoit gang at Majeer Pallar near Varkady in the early hours of Sunday.
The arrested have been identified as Faizal from Ullal and Shahid Amaan from Tumkur, while four others managed to escape. During interrogation, it was revealed that the six-member gang had planned a bank heist.
Around 3 am, Manjeshwar police on patrol duty noticed the group acting suspiciously and questioned them. Four of the suspects fled, but with the help of locals, police were able to capture two. A physical altercation ensued between the police and the dacoits, leading to the hospital admission of the captured suspects at Kasargod General Hospital.
A gas cutter, cylinder, and other equipment were recovered from their vehicle. Police indicated that the gang was preparing for multiple heists, including one targeting a bank. Authorities are investigating whether this group is connected to other recent dacoity cases within the jurisdiction of the Manjeshwar police station.
The search for the remaining four suspects is ongoing.
