Udupi, Nov 10: A West Bengal man was duped of Rs 4.15 lac by an online fraudster posing as a car rental service.

On November 7, Pallob Bannerjee was searching for car rentals on Google when he found Shakti Car Rentals. He was contacted by a person named Rohit Sharma, who directed him to the website shakticarrentals.com to pay a Rs 150 registration fee for booking a car.

After failing to complete the transaction using his Canara Bank debit card due to issues with OTPs, Pallob attempted the payment again with his SBI credit card, but again received no OTP.

When Pallob informed Sharma of the problem, he was told to pay the amount directly to the driver upon the car's arrival. However, the car never showed up. Instead, Rs 3.35 lac was fraudulently withdrawn from his SBI credit card, and another Rs 80,056 was debited from his Canara Bank account.

Pallob has filed a case with the CEN Police, who are now investigating the fraud.
