Karkala, Nov 10: In connection with the case alleging the construction of a counterfeit Parashurama statue at the Parashurama Theme Park in Bailoor, sculptor Krishna Naik has been arrested by the police in Puducherry.
Krishna Naik had filed an anticipatory bail application in the court regarding this case. However, the Udupi Additional District and Sessions Court rejected his bail plea on Thursday, November 7. Following this, the police intensified their search efforts.
Krishna Naik, who had gone into hiding in Mahe, a part of the Union Territory of Puducherry, was apprehended by the PSI and staff of Karkala Town police station.
The allegations state that through his company, Krish Art World, Krishna Naik had accepted Rs 1.25 crore from Udupi Nirmiti Kendra to install a bronze statue of Parashurama at the theme park. However, it is alleged that he created a counterfeit statue instead, defrauding the government. A complaint regarding this matter was lodged by Krishna Shetty of Nallur in June, leading to the registration of the case at the Karkala Town police station.
