Mangalore: Neighbour Trouble - Willina D'Souza Clarifies her Stand

Mangalore: Neighbour Trouble - Willina D'Souza Clarifies her Stand

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (PS)

Mangalore, Dec 10: Following the report relating to trouble between neighbours in Lotus Park Apartments published in Daijiworld on Friday December 9, Willina D'Souza, against whom her neighbour Lilly Pinto had filed a complaint, contacted Daijiworld to narrate her version of the incident.

It may be recalled that Lilly Pinto had accused Willina of not allowing auto rickshaws and other vehicles inside the compound, thus inconveniencing Lilly's husband John Pinto who has lost both his legs and needs autos to stop at the doorstep of the apartment. She had also stated that Willina was not authorised to collect maintenance charges of the apartments in the absence of the owner who stays out of station.

John and Lilly Pinto

It may also be noted that on Friday, Willina had refused to speak to the media when contacted before the news was published, but on Saturday, she contacted Daijiworld to clarify the matter.

According to Willina, the Pinto couple has been creating problem in the locality ever since 2006. In between they had travelled to other places and settled at the flat again about 11 months back.

Willina said that the apartment building is about 19 year old, and that she resides in the first floor. She explained that there is no driveway for vehicles between the gate and the apartment entrance, and that there is only a ramp that may collapse if vehicles move on it. Hence, the entry of vehicles had to be banned, she said.

She also alleged that John had used abusive language against her and that Lilly also had supported him. Despite complaining to the police, no action was taken, she said, adding that every time a complaint was given, the police would coax the two parties to arrive at a compromise.

Willina also said that not just her but other neighbours too had problems with the behaviour of the Pinto couple.

Regarding allegations that she was not authorised to collect maintenance charges, she denied the same and claimed that she had proof to show that she was the authorised person to collect payments, charges, bills etc from the apartment residents. However, the Pinto couple stopped paying their share some months back and had refused to sign documents in this regard at a meeting, Willina said.

"The couple are taking undue advantage of John's physical disability," she alleged while speaking to Daijiworld.

Willina said that earlier she had approached Kadri police to lodge a complaint, but when they did not take any action, she went to Bunder police ACP Ravindra Gadadi. "If no action is taken by the police, I will take the matter to higher authorities," she said.

When asked why she had refused to speak on Friday, she said that she was tired of going to the police and was not in a position to speak to the media.

We have known Mrs. Willina D'souza since 2000 and know her as a very honest, trust worthy and dedicated humanbeing. She has been taking care of the Lotus Park condominium and has always wanted the best for the residents of the building. Its so surprising to learn that something untrue like this has been published on the website without hearing both sides of the incident. Media can no doubt be a good source to gain sympathetic votes but TRUTH WILL ALWAYS PREVAIL and TIME is the ONLY ANSWER!!! We pray that God grants her immense grace to forgive such falsified statements against her and continue doing the good that she is known for at Lotus Park.

Both of you neighbors should solve the problems within yourselves instead of going to the police station or courts. You will be simply spending time and money. I felt sorry when I saw the pictures of the crippled person.

    Hi,
Guess if one goes through the Society rules and regulations, the outgoings are to be paid by the Landlord. (atleast that is the case here in Mumbai)
Accordingly the society bills the landlord with the other monthly expenses for e.g.: sinking fund etc.
The landlord on paying the same manages to get the same out from the tenant by adding it to the rent amount.
To explain it further, say if the rental is Rs. 15,000/- and the outgoing is Rs. 500/-, the landlord charges a rent of Rs. 15,500/- from the tenant.
However when he pays his income tax he shows the Rs. 500/- as expenses incurred towards the rental deed and shows the Rs. 15,000/- as the income through rent.
Hope the above would assist the Society authorities to deal with the landlord directly and resolve this issue once for all.
    Kind Regards
    Aladdin Pais

It's really a sad thing to know that physically challenged people have to sturggle and I don't understand few comments that "the couple are taking undue advantage". It is not an undue advantage and actually it is the owner of the building's responsiblitiy that he should make comfortable for the people who are living in that building.

According to Willina, the ramp is too old and at any time it will break and she has the authorization from the owner to collect the maintenance of the building. Since these people have only lived for 11 months it is the right to ask and likewise, show the proof of authorization letter. Since the maintenance is collected it is the duty of the owner to repair any damages for the building. It is the responsibility of the owner to make access for the physically challenged persons.

Since Daijidubai has intervened this matter, I would like Daijidubai to solve this problem at the best interest of the person who lives in those building.

Gerald- You are right. These readers have no heart. They do not want see disabled peroson's suffring and no feeling for Pinto family. They want to dump him saying " Mr. Pinto's disable pictures is emotional blackmail to the readers.
World is changing from bad to worst. I salute Goddrey Pinto Mang/Bangalore. He has rightly said "lets change our ways for the better ones and learn to love and forgive just the way Jesus did!" Thanks to daijiworld for highlighting these issues. This will awaken some of the ruthless people and help them to change their attitude. God bless Pinto family.

After hearing the grievances of the complainant and the aggrieved, I hereby order that Mr. John Pinto should restrain from displaying his amputated part of the body which is tantamount to garnering sympathy from the readers and hampering the clear view of the matter in question and as for Mrs. Willina it is hereby ordered that she should shun the doors of police stations around the city forthwith which is again tantamount to garnering sympathy and a bait to Mr. Corruption to have a field day!!
On hearing both the parties, it is hereby concluded and ordered that they should settle the matter amicably by putting up a proper ramp for the smooth exist and entry of Mr.John and the cost should be borne by Mr.John. As for the bills, should Mrs. William be genuinely authorized to get payment, all bills must be settled with no further delay which only would bring relief to Pinto family from accumulating the dues with penalty. It is further ordered that both Mr. John and Mrs. Willina should shake hands with a neighbourly smile.

"The couple are taking undue advantage of John's physical disability," she alleged while speaking to Daijiworld.

I do have sympathy to the physically disable people and they should be accommodated accordingly. At the same time I agree the above statment from Willina. Reader before making one sided comments, please think out of the box or review the situation. First of all the Mr. Pinto should ensure that the building has access for physically disabled person at the time of renting. I dont think showing Mr. Pinto's disable pictures is emotional blackmail to the readers.

Thank you for this very timely 'other side of the story' DW.

Nevertheless, my sympathy rests with the immobile man but the ordeal Willina has to go through in the hands of the police is noteworthy.

Will certain reader who boasted 'Our So Very Efficient Police Department' justify the greatness of the police towards Willina in the past ?

We can't buy willina version of story simply because the matter could have either sorted it amicably or through competent authority. But for everybody's surprise that did not happen! However, blocking path for physical disabled is utterly inhuman and anti social. The issue is related to financial management and if that should had valid reasons to sue the couple in the court law, that could be OK, but blackmailing in such a way is highly condemnable.
