Mangaluru: Mother, sister held in Pakshikere murder-suicide case; mobile phones and knives seized

Mangaluru, Nov 12: The investigation into the tragic murder-suicide case at Pakshikere has been intensified by the police. They have confiscated the mobile phones of Karthik Bhat and his wife Priyanka, along with two knives found in the couple’s two-bedroom apartment.

On Monday, the police arrested Shyamala, Karthik’s mother, and Kanmani, his elder sister, following a complaint lodged by Savithri, Priyanka's mother and Karthik’s mother-in-law. Savithri hails from Purale village in Shivamogga. The apartment where Karthik, his wife Priyanka, and their son Hriday lived is registered in the name of Kanmani’s husband. According to Savithri's complaint, Kanmani and Shyamala had been pressuring Karthik to vacate the flat for the past two years.

The accused, Shyamala and Kanmani, were presented at the Moodbidri court on Monday. The judge ordered them into judicial custody. However, both women reportedly felt dizzy and unwell while being taken to prison and were subsequently admitted to a private hospital in Moodbidri.

Meanwhile, police searched the apartment on Monday, seizing various items for further investigation. They have also requested Karthik’s family to vacate the flat for two to three days to facilitate a thorough inspection.

A disturbing discovery was made during the investigation: black ink had been smeared on a family photograph of Karthik, his wife Priyanka, and their son Hriday, indicating deep-seated animosity within the family. It remains unclear who defaced the photo, which was displayed in the living room.

The FIR notes that Karthik faced continuous harassment from his mother, who allegedly refused to interact with her grandson. According to the police, Karthik documented in his diary that he was making monthly loan payments for the apartment, despite his mother publicly mocking him, claiming the property did not belong to him.

CCTV footage showed Karthik walking along the railway track with his hand wrapped in a cloth after parking his scooter near Kallapu temple. It is suspected that he sustained a hand injury while stabbing his wife and son with a glass object.

Many lives are lost due to in correct lifestyle and no proper guidance, there is no one to lead us . Our strong elders are busy fighting blame game and the weak ones are preparing to retire and saying its none of our business, lets stay out of it. I seriously question we and our coming generations have no where to go. Tulunadu or our coastal region was once known for unity, integrity and brotherhood but now we are just a nuclear family were most of ancestors have passed away and we stand here dominating our parents saying they dont have any clue about internet generation and should follow us. So many parents have been abandoned after they get their son/daughter married. Is there someone irrespective of religion take the initiative to guide "US" . Like seriously can we stop this everyday news of suicides and murders. Here everyone is judging what , why, how , who??? but we dont know what they must have gone through or what loss their parents are goin through. Let's just find a way to stop this in future instead of what happened. Lead a simple life, listen through tolerance if someone is guiding you, understand through compassion and live with love no matter what.

This is why helping anyone in todays world is a dangerous game. No matter how much you do its never enough. At least when in dispute vacate the house and move somewhere else. But no always someone else is responsible for your problem and then create more and more problem for yourself and others too. His dairy note of making loan payment makes no sense. When you are in trouble and even if someone betrayed you, move out ,why would you pay his loan. Renting is relatively cheap in India.

Both husband and wife were educated, young. Could have find job somewhere and lead happy life. Why opted for live with parents, if they have harassment from them? Any responsible parents will push their grown up children to go to work and earn their livelihood. That cant be called harassment. Parents are doing their duty when children don't take life seriously.

If there was so much harassment at home, Karthik could have taken his family and separated instead of committing suicide and murdering his wife and son.
