'Oldest' Indian Man Dies in Madhya Pradesh


Bhopal, Dec 10 (IANS): Parsaram Gurjar, among the oldest men in India, died here Saturday at the age of 125 years, his grandson said.

Parsaram was on World Elders Day Oct 1 conferred the Shatayu Samman by the Madhya Pradesh government for attaining the age of more than 100 years.

His relatives contended that he was one of the world's oldest men and was born Oct 10, 1886.

The agriculturist by profession was keeping good health and was only suffering from a hearing problem.

"He was fit till today. I had gone to Delhi and when today I returned he told me that his time has come and asked me to bring him Narmada water, which I did. Later, we took him to hospital where doctors declared him dead," Hakam Singh Gurjar, grandson of Parsaram, told IANS.

Parsaram's only surviving son Mohanlal is 75 years old. His three other sons and a younger daughter have already died. His family consists 14 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
