Mangalore: ‘Rotary Orphanage Olympics’ Brings Smiles on Faces of Deprived Children

Mangalore, Dec 11: The ‘14th Annual Rotary Orphanage Olympics’ organized by Rotary club of Mangalore Central as a part of its community development projects and services, was flagged off by deputy speaker and MLA N Yogish Bhat at Mangala Stadium on Sunday  December 11.

Addressing the gathering, Bhat said that the students need to take part in sports for both physical and mental development. By organizing such a exclusive event for Orphanage children the Rotary club is doing a great job, he lauded.


Rohinath, assistant governor of IV zone, was a guest of honour. He said that the programme aims to bring smiles on the faces of those deprived children at least for a day in a year.

Manjunath Revankar, president, RCMC presided and welcomed the gathering. Dr B Devadas Rai, chairman organizing committee, M V Mallya chairman publicity, and others were present. Dr. Sureshchandra Shetty, secretary delivered the vote of thanks.
Boys and girls separately competed in the games like Fog Race, Rope PullingLemon and Spoon Race, Balancing the Book.

800 orphanage children residing in 11 different orphanages in and around the city participated in the event.

    I thank the organizers for this event that brought a smile on the faces of these deprived ones.

    This is the reality of life - we don't understand how lucky we are to be raised by our own family. I pray that these children find a home or get adequate education to shape a future.

    Daiji, no mention of the orphanage or a contact person if we want to visit these little angels. Any leads ?
