Udupi, Dec 11: Special Detection squad of DySP Jayanth Shetty has arrested three dreaded underworld gangster and recovered two USA made pistols and 22 live cartridges. All the three belong to the gang of notorious underworld element Vishwanatha Koraga Shetty now based in Dubai.
The DySp Special squad led by PSI Kota Mahesh Prasad and their team followed the movement of these gangsters on a tip off and after keeping a sustained watch all the three were nabbed near city bus stand Udupi on Saturday December 10 evening.
On interrogation the arrested gangsters have revealed that the weapons were sent by Vishwanatha Koraga Shetty through his henchmen to Udupi, further to be taken to Mangalore conspiring to eliminate ex-underworld element and present DK-INTUC president Rakesh Malli.
The arrested gangsters have been identified as Balakrishna K Devadiga (42) resident of Gori Road, Udupi, and Shreyas Kulal (22) resident of Kudroli, Mnagalore and Deekshith Poojary (22) resident of Maroli, Mangalore. One Maruthi Swift desire car, mobiles phones used for the offence have also been seized from their possession, all the three arrested gangsters have criminal back ground.
Balakrishna Devadige was earlier involved in a robbery case, where he had robbed a bag in Udupi town containing jewellery worth lacs of rupees carried by a jeweler from Coimbatore. He was also involved in case of kidnap and rape of a girl.
Shreyas Kulal is involved in a murder case, an attempt to murder case and involved in several other offences in Mangalore City.
Deekshith Poojary is a notorious gangster, involved in one murder case, one case of attempt to murder, possession of illegal fire arms and several assault cases in the city and Surathkal.
The investigation conducted so far has revealed that Dubai based underworld element Vishwanatha Koraga shetty conspired with these accused and few others to eliminate Rakesh Malli within a week. A special squad comprising of Ravichandra, Paradeep Kumar, Santosh Kunder, Sudhir, Fayaz, Krishna Prasad, Khade, Sudesh Shetty, Sudhakar and Driver Mahabaleshwara made the arrests.
SP Dr Ravi Kumar Y S and Additional AP M V Venkateshappa have lauded the outstanding work by the team and announced suitable cash reward.
Accused are being produced before the court and they will be taken to police custody for further probe in to the offence.
