Mangalore, Dec 11: The cinema songs nurture the wonderful culture of bonding among people irrespective of religious and geographical barriers, opined Jayanth Kaikini, renowned lyricist of Kannada Cinema.

He was delivering his talk on the topic ‘songs, lyrics in cinema’ at the ‘face to face with litterateur’ programme organized on the second and final day of Beary Sammelana – 2011 at Townhall here on Sunday December 11.

He said that the ‘song culture’ is unique element of India as nowhere else in the world people were benefited from movie songs socially and morally. The western cinemas don’t give much prominence to songs; he noted and said that the songs in various regional languages in India bonded the people from
Kashmir to Kanya Kumari.

He also made an interesting point that unlike in Punjabi, Malayalam, Tamil and other language movies, in our state, Kannada litterateurs did not write lyrics for movie songs. They always kept a distance from movies.

He further said that people in society have inculcated most of the morals or ethics mainly through the influence of movies. The songs have such impact and even a small dialogue in movies were capable of  changing people’s thinking and were useful for the society, he pointed out.

P Sheshadri, speaking on the topic ‘Stories in Cinema’ said that 40 % of earlier decade movies were  filmed on the theme of life, tradition and culture. Contribution of Beary literature to movie industry is also noteworthy, he added.

Noted writer Vaidehi in her presidential address said if English schools are opened further, Beary language will face the danger of extinction. She also called upon the Beary Sahithya Academy to look into this matter.

Corporate affairs minister Dr Veerappa Moily inaugurated the ‘face to face with litterateur’ programme.

Later speaking to reporters separately, he said that if horse trading continues to happen in state politics, the political system in the state will ruin completely. About appointment of the new Lokayukta, he said the BJP led state government is not interested in appointing Lokayukta, even in Gujrath state Lokayukta was not appointed for 7 years, same path is followed by the state government, he said. About Anna Hazare’s fight, Moily said Anna has bad intention behind this move. It is clear now that he is fighting against the congress party, he said.
