Yeddyurappa Tries for Gowda's Unanimous Election to Council

Bangalore, Dec 12 (IANS): Apparently rattled by speculation that he is working to defeat his successor D.V. Sadananda Gowda in the Dec 22 bypoll to the legislative council, former Karnataka chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa said Sunday he is trying for Gowda's unanimous election.

Gowda is now a MP and is seeking to enter the legislative council in the Dec 22 bypoll. He took over from Yeddyurappa Aug 4 and has to get elected to the state legislature within six months to meet constitutional requirements.

"I have telephoned former prime minister and JD-S (Janata Dal-Secular) president H.D. Deve Gowda, state Congress chief G. Parameshwara and Leader of Opposition in the assembly Siddaramaiah(of Congress) not to field a candidate against Sadananda Gowda," Yeddyurappa told reporters near Hassan, about 280 km from Bangalore.

The BJP's first chief minister in the state denied he was aspiring to return to the post by ensuring Gowda's defeat in the bypoll.

Yeddyurappa, however, did not give any indication whether the Congress and JD-S leaders were willing to accept his appeal. "I have appealed to them and hope Gowda will be elected unanimously," he said.

Speculation in political circles and a section of the media on Yeddyurappa's plans started after mining barons Reddy brothers' associate and former BJP minister B. Sriramulu announced in Bangalore Friday that 22 BJP assembly members were supporting him and immediate target was to defeat Gowda in the Dec 22 bypoll.

In Bangalore, Siddaramaiah told reporters that Congress will field a candidate. "Names have been sent to the high command for final selection," he said.

He was confident that the JD-S and Sriramulu and his supporters in BJP will vote for the Congress candidate.

Gowda will file the nomination papers in Bangalore Monday, the last day for doing so. Only assembly members are eligible to vote in the bypoll, which follows N. Shankarappa of BJP vacating the seat to facilitate Gowda's entry to the council.

The BJP has 119 members in the 225-member assembly and the support of one independent. The Congress has 71 and JDS 26. The rest are independents.

In a breather for the BJP, Sriramlu now appears to have changed his tune.

On Saturday he told reporters in Bellary, the Reddy brothers' stronghold 300 km north of Bangalore, that he will not destablise the BJP government as the party has got a mandate for five years.

"I will not ask my supporters in BJP to vote against Gowda. It is left to them," Sriramulu, who quit BJP in September as he was not taken in the Gowda ministry, said.

Sriramulu, who Dec 4 won the bypoll to the assembly from Bellary Rural seat defeating the BJP and Congress candidates, has announced he will form a new party soon.

Of the three Reddy brothers', Gali Somashekara openly campaigned for Sriramulu in the bypoll and has been suspended from BJP.

Gali Janardhana, who was tourism minister in the Yeddyurappa cabinet, is in Hyderabad's Chanchalaguda jail since Sep 5 in connection with illegal mining case in Andhra Pradesh.

The third brother, Gali Karunakara, who was also member of the Yeddyurappa ministry, did not campaign for Sriramulu and has said that if BJP leaders ask him, he will talk to this siblings not to leave the party.

Nagesh nayak, Bangalore... Great going, what a situation of BJP. A CM who jailed for corruption and still facing court cases has to help the present CM to get elected a MLC. You forgot what you and Eddy said of returning to power in 180 days. How you will face the people who voted for BJP and now cannot have a CM from list of MLA's and you have to nominate as MLC. Why not DVS contest against Sriramulu if Eddy is so supportive? We cannot be MLA's but let’s enjoy talking about them. It is our right ,freedom and privilege in a democracy.

If you can't pray, keep quiet. It was only my request, not force.

You pray only for TERRORIST FRIENDLY - CORRUPTION FRIENDLY party CONGRESS.

Just imagine, JDS, SRiramulu and CONGRESS, these 3 parties getting together to take on single party. Being a national party do not you think it is a shame on Congress? Their intention is not to win, but to defeat DVS.

A person who contest with the intention to WIN the game, will win. The person who contest with the intention to DEFEAT others, will always lose. Watch out !!!

I am not saying BJP is not corrupt. On comparison to congress, they are much much better. They have done good work, you have realized too, but you don't accept because you are biased.

Yeddy should be made CM again, he has got time until he is arrested again. In his absence mutts are suffering. Any number of temples in Karnataka, Kerala, Andra, TN or elsewhere are not getting attention. Now Yeddy should find a proper astraloger to find him right path, a good God to get his seat back and he is ready to pay anything to anybody from tax payers pocket. Give his some more time he will make Namma Bengaluru Yeddiyuru.

As far as Yeddy concerned,he is really wounded tiger and wait for some time for his political suicide that may ultimately wipe out BJP from Karnataka ruling.Yeddy has so many options in his mind before go for a kill and telephonic conversations are one among them.BJP govt never delivered it's promise to people and hence need to go...

This is just a "shadyanthra" by yeddi. There is not even 1% honesty in his statement. He thinks that by his "Mosale Kanneeru" people will believe in him. You see dramatic changes will appear as the election nears. DVS will lose the election at any cost. This is a chanakya Thanthra by Yeddi. By illicit relation ship with JDS and Congress yeddi is going to topple DVS. Just wait and watch. Yeddi "There mareya Soothradhaara" the silent culprit. Let's wait till the election date...

    Dear Sachidanand Shetty, Mundkur/Dubai

If BJP MLAs doesn't vote for DVS, chances are more that BJP govt will collapse. More over the FOX Hamsaraj Bharadwaj is waiting to impose presidential rule in the state. So it will be loss a for themselves only. So they have to vote to DVS. BJP hi-command ordered whip and will keep an eye on voting. No BJP MLA will take risk. DVS will emerge as winner..

Current Political Situation is not favouring SVD to remain in CM Post. Because in the history of Karnataka, North Canara People would not like to see South Canara person as CM. Unless some South Canara other than non-BJP MLAs’ cross vote in favour of SVD , CM Post may be nightmare for SVD
