Udupi, Nov 17: ‘Spike Fest’-AICS district-level interschool volleyball tournament was held at St Mary’s English Medium School, Kannarpady, Udupi on November 16. A total of 74 teams representing various CBSE and ICSE schools across Udupi district contested in this mega sports event.
The inaugural ceremony held at St Mary’s auditorium commenced with a prayer led by teachers’ choir. Dignitaries initiated the proceedings by lighting the auspicious lamp.
The principal, Fr Vijay Joyson D’Souza, in his introductory remarks highlighted the need for upholding high degree of sportsmanship in every phase of the game.
The chief guest of the programme, Dr Ramachandra Patkar, physical education director, Dr G Shankar, Govt First Grade College, Udupi was felicitated for his incredible achievements in the field of sports and training. Addressing the young sportsmen, he said that disciplined practice and dedicated focus are the basic ingredients of success in the field of sports.
Vincent D'Costa, the principal of SRS, Kunjibettu and also the sports secretary of AICS graced the occasion as the guest of honour.
The correspondent, Fr Charles Menezes, in his presidential address stated that the sports activities strengthen peace and harmony in the society. Maxim D’Souza, the vice-president of parish pastoral council, Mother of Sorrows Church, Udupi; Rita Quadros, the vice-principal; Gerald Pinto, the physical education director were present on the stage.
Renuka, the physical education teacher extended the words of gratitude. Helen Cornelio anchored the programme. The chief guest and other dignitaries symbolically inaugurated the tournament by cutting the ribbon and playing Volleyball. The inaugural session was coordinated by Bhasker, the physical education instructor.
The valedictory programme was held in the evening. The correspondent, principal and Vincent Dcosta, the sports secretary of AICS were present on the stage. Alita welcomed the gathering. The referees and match officials were honoured by the correspondent. Vice-principal announced the results. The prizes were handed over by the dignitaries on the stage. Venus anchored the session. Amitha proposed the vote of thanks.
