St Aloysius ITI organises district-level inter-volleyball & throwball tournament

Mangaluru, Nov 17: St Aloysius ITI Alumni Association, Mangaluru and Real Estate Group (R) Bejai, Mangaluru jointly organised DK & Udupi district-level inter ITI Volleyball and Throwball Tournament season 2 on November 17, at St Aloysius (Deemed to be University) Ground.

Fr Melwin Joseph Pinto SJ, rector St Aloysius Institutions was the president of the inaugural programme of this event. Manoj Kumar Kodical - Mayor, Mangaluru City Corporation and Fr Praveen Martis SJ - vice-chancellor, St Aloysius (Deemed to be University) were the chief guests.

Sachin R Bangera - manager, service, Trident Trucking Mulky was the guest of honour. Fr John D’Souza S J - director, SAITI; Roshan D’Souza - principal; Naveen Rasquinha - president, alumni association & president, Real Estate Group (R); Romius D’Souza - alumni co-ordinator; Rajith Kumar - secretary, alumni association; Kiran D’Souza - treasurer, alumni association; Maruthi M M - sports secretary, Real Estate Group (R); Puttappa vice-president - Real Estate Group (R) were present.

As many as 19 teams participated in the volleyball tournament that are as follows: Shree Mahalingeshwara ITI, Puttur; Trinity ITI, Udayavara; Govt ITI (Women), Mangaluru; SDM Mangalajyothi Pvt ITI; St Mary's ITI, Chitpady; Prasanna Industrial Training Institute; Xavier ITI, Konaje; MR Punja ITI, Thokur; B A ITI, Thumbay; Govt ITI, Malady, Belthangady; Narayana Guru ITI, Kudroli; Vittal Suprajit Private ITI Vittla; Govt ITI, Perdoor; Hebich Technical Training Institute; St Aloysius ITI, Mangaluru; BN GITI, Katipalla; Govt ITI, Karkala; Seyyid Madani ITI, Ullal; Govt ITI Bidkalkatte.

Four teams participated in the throwball tournament: SDM Mangalajyothi Pvt ITI; St Aloysius ITI, Mangaluru; M R Punja ITI, Thokur; SDM ITI, Ujire.

The inaugural programme commenced with a prayer song which was led by the students of St Aloysius ITI. Naveen Rasquinha - president, alumni association & president, Real Estate Group (R) welcomed the gathering.

The inauguration of the programme was done by the chief guest by releasing the balloons in the air.

The staff members of St Aloysius ITI - Vincent Mendonca, Romius D'Souza, Umesh J A and Roshan D'Souza were felicitated for their service.

The chief guest addressed the gathering by saying, “I am happy to see the students even after studying in ITI and they are in jobs. They have taken an initiative to conduct an inter ITI tournament. This shows the love towards the institution.”

In his presidential address Fr Melwin Joseph Pinto SJ said, “Winning or losing is not important, building relationships and congratulating the team is important.”

The main aim of the tournament was to build a fund and to provide scholarships for the financially poor students studying in St Aloysius ITI.

The tournament was inaugurated by releasing the ball that was tied to the net.

Romius D'Souza - alumni coordinator proposed the vote of thanks. The programme was compered by Robin Vas, junior training officer of St Aloysius ITI.

Closing Ceremony

The closing ceremony of DK & Udupi District Level Inter ITI Volleyball and Throwball Tournament Season 2 was held in the evening.

Fr John D'Souza S J - director, SAITI was the president. Hari H - principal, MRP ITI, Mulki was the chief guest. Sunil Joseph Correa - assistant operation office, PNGC and Vincent Lobo - entrepreneur Bahrain were the guests of honour. Roshan D'Souza - principal; Naveen Rasquinha - President, Alumni Association & president, Real Estate Group (R); Romius D'Souza - alumni co-ordinator; Rajith Kumar - secretary, alumni association; Kiran D'Souza - treasurer, alumni association; Maruthi M M - sports secretary, Real Estate Group (R); Puttappa vice-president - Real Estate Group (R) were present.

Roshan D'Souza - principal, SAITI welcomed the gathering.

The chief guest addressed the gathering by saying, “I thank St Aloysius ITI for giving an opportunity for the students to participate in the tournament. The students of Aloysius ITI have served well as volunteers today. Also, I congratulate the winners of today's tournament.”

Romius D'Souza, Wilson N, Alwyn Menezes and Noel Lobo were honoured for their contribution towards collecting the funds for the tournament.

In his presidential address, Fr John D'Souza SJ said, “There is department-level, state-level match held for primary, high school, PUC, degree. But there is no such match conducted for ITIs. We have taken the leadership and started this tournament which will help the sports persons and gives the opportunity for students to participate in the tournament.”

Prizes were distributed to the winners by the chief guest.

The umpires for the match were Ajith Kumar Shetty, Arun D'Souza, Deepak Raj and Kaushal Suvarna.

The commentary for the match was delivered by Arun Shetty Kenjar.

Runners - Govt ITI, Karkala
Best all rounder - Shailesh, Govt ITI, Karkala
Best striker - Dakshith, SDM Mangalajyothi Pvt ITI, Vamanjoor
Best setter - Sudeep, SDM Mangalajyothi Pvt ITI, Vamanjoor

The results of the Throwball match are as follows:
Winners - SDM ITI, Ujire
Runners - SDM Mangalajyothi Pvt ITI, Vamanjoor
Best all-rounder - Manjula, SDM ITI, Ujire
Best thrower - Lavanya, SDM ITI, Ujire
Best receiver - Nishmitha, SDM Mangalajyothi Pvt ITI, Vamanjoor.
