Udupi: Gold jewellery worth Rs 63 lacs stolen from train passenger

Udupi, Nov 18: A case of theft has been reported by a passenger named Avinash from Mumbai, who was traveling with his family on the CST Mangalore Express Train (Train No. 12133, Coach No. S3) on November 15.

According to the complaint, Avinash had placed four suitcases containing clothes and gold jewelry, worth approximately Rs 63 lacs, under their seat, secured with zipper locks. The family alighted at the Indrali Railway Station on November 16. Later in the evening, upon opening the bags at home, they discovered that the gold jewellery from two of the bags was missing.

The theft is suspected to have occurred somewhere between the Panvel and Kankavali railway stations.

Based on the complaint, Manipal police have registered a case.

    Something is fishy or wrong here.Gold in suitecase ,they went along with suitecase .But how come one can steal gold from their suite case when they are present?Or by mistake they must have forgotten the gold at home?It can happen to anyone who is in a hurry packing forget important things:Let him check once again.why the hell they should carry so much gold on train ?Knowing the dangers.Hope everything clears soon.He has a a big problem now that it is not fake but real is.Does he have a foto of gold atleast?

    It's nothing abnormal.... these train robbers open the suitcases and remove the valuables.... this is common type of theft by organized gangs.....am sure the law enforcement agencies will be able to crack the case....

    That’s really unfortunate! It's a stark reminder of the importance of staying vigilant while traveling, especially with valuables. Hopefully, the authorities will be able to investigate and recover the stolen jewellery. It’s always better to declare items to avoid such situations!

    Most of the Cases victim himself Contribute a part of Percentage when fraud,theft took place.Now a days in daily Newspaper most of the online fraud targetted to those who involve in it.Here also this guy carried huge amount of Gold in B level transport to hide or avoid something.otherwise through flight if he would have travelled nothing will going to happen if he shows the legal Bill of the said ornaments.Something KARIYA is there.

    Train journey is highly unsafe to travel with precious items... Single passenger with luggage is forced to carry then even while going to toilet... It would have been better if Avinash had travelled by a taxi instead... Highly unlikely that he may recover all or any of the stolen Gold...

    Feel pity for the one who lost but, the pace and rationale behind which BJP winning elections, this is something deserved. There are 1000s of middle class travelers with valid tickets have to through the harrowing experience of getting inside the train, pushed through windows of crowded train. Hardly it makes any news in mainline media or even in social media. But, a empty vandhe bharat train, running from one place to other, with posh looking interior, gets more likes. But, now it is like rubbing salt on wound.

    If Avinash had traveled by flight with his family instead of by train and declared the gold at the airport (since he had gold worth ₹63 lakhs and could produce the bill legally), his gold would have been safe from theft, and he wouldn’t be facing so many problems now. However, it is difficult to recover the gold at this point.
