Mangalore, Dec 13: A young girl who was caught cheating innocent patients in Father Muller hospital by posing as a doctor and collecting money from them, was arrested here on Tuesday December 13.

The girl, who identified herself as Aishwarya Rai during police interrogation, hails from Vittal and has studied up till first year PUC in a college in Mulleria.

Sources said that she used to wear doctor's coat and carry stethoscope, 'checking' on patients and collecting money from them. She was caught on Tuesday by one of the doctors on duty while attempting to extract Rs 500 from a patient.

Security personnel were called immediately, and on preliminary investigation, it was revealed that she was not a doctor and had no identity card on her.

The security personnel took her to a room where relatives of a few patients were asked if they had been decieved by her. The accused had been seen in the hospital premises since last week, one of them said.

Pandeshwar police are investigating the case.

I am not at all against nurses, infact I am with them and adore them for their selfless care to patients and they are angels to all patients. Here we are talking about technical issue. I am very much aware about this selfless charitable institute because since three generations we are loyal clients to this hospital. Due to patient nurse ratio if a nurse cannot protect her assigned patient then who else?

When it becomes everybody's responsibility then no one takes care. The assigned nurse is immediate responsible person and she has the responsibility of to be vigilant at all times to know who enters her patients room. What if a baby is kidnapped while mother asleep. Still Irene would say due to multitask of a nurse she couldn't render safety to her assigned patient? The loopholes should be corrected by lessening patient nurse ratio to accommodate this responsibility.

    Wah Malhotra, Wah !

You didn't find one fault with the girl but preferred dragging Unani practice into the discussion ? Should her act not have assumed as your ploy to malign such an exemplary charitable institution ? Else, would you not have sent her to KEM, Mangla, AJ Hospital, Vijaya Clinic ? Is she sharing the booty with you by any chance ?

Tanna Kannalirodu Honnu parana kannallirodu Hunnu - eh ?

Should the readers not have dragged great healers who also own Ayurvedi medicine export units, own huge islands yet prefer to be called a SWAMY ? The one who tried to escape in a woman's clothing fearing arrest ?

Should readers not have reminded you about a spiritual personality found stacking sandal wood logs in his backyard and used them for making religious idols to smuggle outside India - Veerappan is a brigand - this man is a SWAMY ?

There is more - a businessman in Mumbai invoked healing from a baba for his daughters but the man found to be thoroughly raping the girls and said to have trying to getting them rid of the spirit that possessed them ?

Tell you what ! Reserve your social service to your hometown Delhi that is 'Rape capital of India' - mothers will bless you for protecting women there. We here are capable enough to fight and raise voice against violence on us !

Try not to discharge in the size that elephant does - a hare is hare - never an elephant. I say this because I am aware that Malhotras are Kshatrias upgraded themselves to Brahmans !

I am sorry Elveera, may be you have not worked in a hospital setting but in a hospital there are doctors, environmental staff, dietary staff, physicians/surgeons,nursing school/college faculty members including student and staff nurses, patients family , friends and other visitors, chaplaincy and so on, who walk in and out through the gates of a hospital many many times in any given day(24 hours/day). So donot just shame the nursing staff blindly, as they are assigned with so many tasks and in their busy schedule of multitasks they are always watching for patient safety /security and best patient advocates. They donot stand by the patients bedside all the time but do their work. So it is everyones responsibility to watch out for a stranger to avoid such incidences like this one, rare but happens so all who enter through the gates no matter which one( maingate , emergency gate or side door) BEWARE and report any unusual /suspicious person around you anytime regardless where you are & take appropriate action. Safety everywhere as this could happen anywhere. Congrats to the one who noticed and took action.
    Irene.

Many comments here are not serious about the centuries old great instutuion of Mangalre. It has grown into a mega hospital which serves the patients in real meaning of service. This is the only hospital in Mangalore which comes to mind when ever one thinks of transperent dealings and their charges are relatively lesser/reasonable.If one listens to the prayerr in the moring directed at the patients those going to for operation on that day is exemplanary.

The issue surfaced here is not to be treated as big one and might have done by the lady who had required money badly, off course the method is wrong. Many people may not be knowing that because of the helping attitude of the this great hospital our great politician leader and son of Kudla Mr.George Fernandes thought it fit to donate Rs.50 lakhs for some department in the memory of his late parents.Anybody may correct me if I am wrong.Fr.Mullers hospital is jewel of Mangalore in every sense.

    Ganesh,

You are right. This place helps poor patients so much, one must pay a small amount to make a card and be eligible to medical treatment. The charges are very limited.

Unfortunately this is the very hospital that got vendalsized over death of a girl brought there after consuming poison. The thugs did not inquire reason for her consuming poison but held the hospital responsible for everything thereafter !

Never mind ! Call from people to forgive her is noteworthy ! Keep up the good work FMCH !

    Hello Jane
When you learn nursing you might have been taught how to protect your patient. Anyone who enters the patients room, whoever it may be including your own director, it is assigned nurses duty to know why he is entering the room. Even if assigned doctor tries to do wrong things to your assigned patient you are supposed to protect your patient by reporting the matter to your superiors and that's why you are there. Your responsibility doesnot finish only by giving medicine, injection etc.

Poor Aishwaria Rai, the fake lady doctor was caught on Duty at Father Muller Hospital. How can this happen in such a big and reputed hospital. The patients must be ignorant to give money to the fake doctor without asking for a receipt. What about the security and the other staff doing. Luckily nothing bad happened as the fake doctor could have kidnapped a child with the pretext of examining the child. Now the management should take proper precaution.

Right or wrong, Aishwarya Rai’s acting talent is worth appreciation. Years ago I had pulled a similar stunt, had to visit a patient friend who was in the same hospital during non- visiting hours but was deterred by the security. Borrowed a steth from a medico friend of mine, dangling it around the neck marched through the main gate and that was pre- Munnabhai era and hence no inspiration but purely imagination!

We all making fun of her .. There should be some solid reason behind this.. WHAT MADE HER TO REACH THIS STAGE TO MAKE MONEY... WHAT PROBLEM SHE HAVE AT BACK HOME ... I completely agree with comments of Janet, mangalore.. She have some problems and people around her should try to help/counsel her rather than treating her like a thief.
Quite unfortunate no issue if someone robbed 500 crores. 500 Rupees is a matter of discussion.. Kab Sudrega India !!!

Unbelievable something like this in a reputed institute can happen! 100% blame goes for nurses who are supposed to be advocates to patients. It is a responsibility of a nurse to protect their patients. One week is too much for such incident.

Normally with all the security that we have at Father Muller's Hospital a hoax like this is hardly possible. However I am glad that timely action has been taken by the security people. It is yet to be seen whether the great pretender is normal.

make even the doctors wear full badge with photo, name and identity number with visible authentic seal which is hard to dublicate. I have seen doctors moving about with dirty and torn uniform without having any identity card with them.

She is looking like a medical student and nobody noticed this, the patients and their family too had the same opinion about Rai. Why the name is Aishwarya Rai? is a million dollar question.

Kindly talk to her and find out the main cause . May be they are facing financial problems at home or may be she wants to study and there is no money to pay fees. What she did was wrong. She must have done it due to the strong reason behind it. Please find out and help her if possible.

Why patient has to pay money to the doctor directly in hospital?!. In any hospital we have to settle our bill for any service or medicine at cash counter. It is very funny, & I appreciate her courage.

BRAVE GIRL WITH BAD MIND. Few years back, one duplicate Doctor was caught in Banglore's famous Hospital. But he was very professional in cheating with good appearance & good command over English. He used to visit different hospitals like a consultant doctor. He used to target those people when they were going to x-ray room.Poor poeple gave all gold ornaments before entering x-ray room. Hospital staff should be extra careful now.
