Mangaluru, Nov 20: The Department of Library and Information Science observed the National Library Week in collaboration with the Karnataka State Library Association and Yenepoya Ayurveda Medical College and Hospital (YAMCH), Yenepoya Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital (YHMCH), Yenepoya Naturopathy and Yogic Science College and Hospital (YNYSCH) and Yenepoya Pharmacy College and Research Centre (YPCRC) on November 19 with a special lecture on ‘Role of Reading and Academic Success’ at the Ayurveda auditorium, AYUSH campus, Naringana, Mangaluru. The resource person for the program was Dr Shivananda Bhat K, professor & co-ordinator Department of Library and Information Science, chief librarian, KMC Health Sciences Library, MAHE, Manipal.
The program started with an invocation by Razvi Syed Abdullah, 2nd Year Ayurveda student, Dr Gururaja, principal & dean, YAMCH welcomed the gathering. Dr M Krishnamurthy, professor, Documentation Research & Training Centre, Indian Statistical Institute, Bangaluru & president, Karnataka State Library Association spoke about the National Library Week being an annual celebration highlighting the valuable role libraries, librarians, and library workers play in transforming lives and strengthening the communities. Library week celebration is a boost to promote the reading habits among the students, he added.
Dr B H Sripathi Rao, pro vice chancellor, Yenepoya (deemed to be University) was the chief guest for the program and delivered the inaugural address. Dr Mamatha Pramod K, head (I/C), Department of Library & Information Science, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) proposed a vote of thanks. Amaljith, librarian at Yenepoya Ayurveda Medical College & Hospital, introduced the resource person and Amreentaj, assistant librarian, Central Library was the master of the ceremony for the program.
The session was inspiring with encouraging tips for students to nurture better reading habits in this digital era.
Around 250 first year students of Ayurveda, homoeopathy, naturopathy and pharmacy, faculty members and library staff attended the program. Dr Shivaprasad, principal, Yenepoya Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital (YHMCH) was present for the program.
The program was graced by the executive members of the Karnataka State Library Association.
