Udupi: Bedridden Student Pushpalatha Seeks Help to Stand on her Feet Again

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (RD)

Udupi, Dec 14: A young girl who should have been with her classmates in college, finds herself bedridden since the past two years.

This is the tale of Pushpalatha, a native of Kumbarabettu that comes under Vaddarse gram panchayat. She has lost the sensation in her feet and is worried about her future.

Background:

She had jaunts of fever while studying in II PUC at Vivek Pre-University College, Kota. She recovered and was back to normal in a fortnight. Then, she had to be admitted to Manipal Hospital when she lost mobility in her limbs. Although everyone felt she was recouping, she lost sensation from below her waist. No significant improvement in her condition was found despite spending Rs 2.5 lac in two-and-a-half months.

She was later admitted to SDM Ayurveda Hospital, Udyavar, where she was treated for nearly two years without any significant improvement in her health. Now, she has been home for over a month.

Brilliant student:

Pushpalatha studied in II PUC after completing her studies at Kota Vivek High School and early schooling in Vaddarshe Primary School. She was a dramatist and poet, but now the bedridden Pushpalatha writes her diary.

College lecturers and her classmates tried to boost her confidence to help her deal with the situation. Despite the doctors at the hospital trying their best, her condition has not improved.

Pushpalatha is the eldest of two children of Babu and Gulabi Poojary, residents of Vaddarse. Their youngest son is studying in Class IX and Pushpalatha dreams of becoming a lecturer. She had secured 433 marks in SSLC and secured 63 percent in I PUC.

Financial hardships:

Babu Poojary, who was working in a hotel in Mumbai, had saved some money to build a modest house in his native village. His hard earned savings have been drained in caring for Pushpalatha. He did not return to Mumbai and instead stayed in his hometown to care for his daughter. The parents have reached a state where they can no more sustain her huge medical expenses and manage the family.
Pushpalatha, who abandoned her college studies due to her prolonged illness is worried about her future.

Donors, philanthropists and individuals are requested to help Pushpalatha in overcoming her problems and live a better life. Contributions in the form of cheques / demand drafts may be sent to:

It is so sad to see cheap vilification kind of politics being played out in the comments section by people nursing a false grievance. If you want/have the capacity to help this needy person, please do so with a clean heart. If you dont then read the article and move on. I think blaming irrelevant to the article entities like RSS,SRS etc is just a ploy to hide the insecurity of a spiteful mind.

I am afraid to help because of fear of "RSS, Mutalik, Yeddy" etc is just a lame excuse to cover an inherent narrowness of mind. I believe Lord loves every human the same regardless of his/her religious beliefs, if you believe in Lord then deep inside you know that you are looking for excuses not to help..Peace

Please help her. @ Gerald/Lydia i totally agree with your sentiments and you are absolutely right. Dinesh Poojari, Ashok Udupi Dubai, should take complete sponsorship of her. Asp their attitude. But let us avoid such comments in these cases. I wish speedy recovery for her.

    @Lydia & Gerald,
Thank you for your comments.Since we do not know each other it is not proper to write that we did not feel bad when some antisocial elements attacked the sacred place like Church.Myself and people I am associated with did not have any clue why people want to attack the Church.I still do not understand what benefit they gained with these attacks.
I agree that some of the readers write to hurt others feelings. We cannot help as you know that "ooru Iddalli Holasu Iruthade"( ಊರು ಇದ್ದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೊಲಸು ಇರುತ್ತದೆ)

Let us keep aside our differences on caste and religion and remember we are humans first, and it is our duty to help a less fortunate human in need, either financially or with kind words.

Gerald is right, we like to help this girl, but tomorrow BD or KRV Ramsene may accuse us of helping her to convert her. It's better people like Dinesh Poojari give helping hand to her, but we will pray for
her. May God have pity on her n give her back her legs. Nothing is impossible for God.

    Mr. KGShenoy,

You never seem to be disturbed by certain people waiting for a chance to nail us Christians may it be by accusing us of converting, interfering with others' religion and what not ? Gerald's reaction is a result of such treatment. You will understand his reason for the comment if you go through the news item of girls missing in Mangalore ! If we had gone by certain commentators verdict on that thread, no Christian should have offered to help Pushpalata but the scene here is not as they expected.

With such kind of disparity it is difficult for a girl to live in a society. She is small in age and long way to go. Now parents are there to support her and look after her,But tomorrow will not be the same for her, she definitely needs help.It would be nice if some one can sponsor her complete medical treatment.

Instead of spending huge money for grand celebrations of some festivals government can bear full expenses for this kind of patients or kidney losers or Liver patients etc which comes only one in lakhs.

My God ! Such a talented girl ! Apparently she lost control over her limbs below waist but can move her hands and think normally. What she needs is a little training in typing and use of a PC after which she can do work like data entry or converting scribbled reports into soft with access to technology.

Common people who are in this type of activity, think over it. Lets make her proud of earning her own bread than guilt of being a burden.
