Puttur: St Philomena Autonomous College hosts 'Philo Chittara'

Puttur, Nov 23: “Art inspires us to learn new things, cultivates patience, and ignites curiosity. It is an invaluable medium to channel opportunities in life effectively,” said renowned violinist and founder of the Mangalore School of Art, vidwan Vishwas Krishna. He was addressing the gathering as the chief guest during the inauguration of Philo Chittara: Art day and exhibition, organized at the SJM hall of St Philomena autonomous college, Puttur.

Presiding over the event, the esteemed correspondent of the college, Fr Lawrence Mascarenhas, emphasized, “Art is the language of the soul. It embodies spirituality and fills life with enthusiasm and energy. Let us nurture this passion within us.”

Principal Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, speaking as the guest of honour, remarked, “Each individual possesses immense potential. By harnessing it with dedication, despite the challenges, one can manifest the abilities and contribute meaningfully to society.”

The high spot of the programme was the vibrant Kavya Kuncha Nritya Gayana – an enthralling blend of poetry, brush strokes, dance, and music. In addition, the event showcased artistic creations by students, offering a platform to uncover and celebrate their latent talents.

Vice principal Dr Vijayakumar Moleyar, Dr Norbert Mascarenhas, registrar (Academics), former alumni association president Jayaraj Bhandari, IQAC coordinator Dr Malini K, faculty members, student coordinator Dileep and students from undergraduate and postgraduate departments were present on the occasion.

Coordinated by the performing arts unit, the event featured a team of dedicated organizers, including Suraksha Rai, Poojasri Rai, and Dr Maitri Bhat. The programme was initiated with prayers by students of the Yaksha Kala Kendra. director of Yaksha Kala Kendra Prashant Rai extended a warm welcome, Tanuja head department of mathematics proposed a vote of thanks, and the programme was compered by third-year BSc student Shridevi.
