Mangaluru: Yenepoya Pharmacy College celebrates 63rd National Pharmacy Week

Mangaluru, Nov 25: Yenepoya Pharmacy College and Research Centre, a constituent of Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), inaugurated the 63rd National Pharmacy Week on November 20, emphasizing the theme ‘Think Health, Think Pharmacy.’ The event underscored the critical role of pharmacists in promoting health and wellness.

The programme began with an opening session led by Tahreen Taj, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. A heartfelt Invocation by Faris Mohammed, a 3rd semester BPharm student, infused the event with a spiritual essence.

The welcome address was delivered by Dr Mohammed Gulzar Ahmed, principal of Yenepoya Pharmacy College, who elaborated on the significance of National Pharmacy Week and its relevance to this year’s theme. He highlighted the role of pharmacists as pivotal contributors to a healthier society.

A highlight of the event was the address by the chief guest, Dr R Narayana Charyulu, principal of NGSM Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (NGSMIPS), NITTE (Deemed to be University). As a token of respect and environmental awareness, Dr Charyulu was presented with a sapling by Dr Mohammed Gulzar Ahmed and Dr Rokeya Sultana, vice principal, symbolizing the institution’s commitment to sustainability.

In his speech, Dr Charyulu shed light on the growing responsibilities of pharmacists in healthcare, urging students to adopt a patient-centred approach with dedication and enthusiasm.

The event also featured a guest talk by Dr Bhagya B Sharma on the topic ‘Eco-friendly and Sustainable Environment'. Dr Sharma emphasized the necessity of sustainable practices in daily life and healthcare, inspiring attendees to contribute towards a greener and more sustainable future.

In a pivotal initiative for sustainability, Prajitha Biju led an oath-taking ceremony to implement a ban on single-use plastics across the campus. Faculty and students collectively pledged to eliminate single-use plastics, reflecting their dedication to environmental conservation. Following this, reusable ceramic mugs were distributed to all faculty members and postgraduate students as part of the drive to encourage sustainable alternatives.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Haleema Shahin D H, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to all dignitaries, guests, and participants for their contributions in making the event a success.

National Pharmacy Week at Yenepoya Pharmacy College is a platform to celebrate pharmacists' achievements and educate the public about their vital role in healthcare. A series of events planned throughout the week aim to inspire students to adopt the pharmacy profession with commitment, focusing on health, environmental sustainability, and patient care.
