Mangalore: Robbers Hoodwink Driver, Get Away with Rs 32 Lac in Broad Daylight

Though intially it was said that the robbers belonged to UP, police sources have confirmed to Daijiworld that they are in fact from Tamil Nadu.

Sources said that the robbers escaped by a KSRTC bus, and when they spotted police checking buses at Adyar, two of them got to escape, but were caught, leading to the capture of other two robbers too.

Mangalore, Dec 15: In an incident that has left both public and police baffled, robbers made away with bags containing Rs 32 lac in cash which was to be deposited in an ATM in the city.

The robbery took place in broad daylight in the busy area of Milagres here on Thursday December 15.

The robbers have already been caught at Adyar, less than 30 minutes after the robbery took place, and taken to Mangalore rural police station. The police station has been locked from inside to keep media out. Two more people are involved in the robbery, and search for them is on, sources said. The two absconding are Yuvaraj Trithi and Kamal, it is learnt.

Security personnel had come in a car loaded with boxes of money that was to be deposited in State Bank of India ATM in Milagres area. One of the box was taken inside, while the others were left in the car.

The robbers who were keeping watch first diverted the attention of the car's driver by placing a ten-rupee note on the front part of the car. While the driver got out to investigate, they quickly snatched the bags and fled the scene.

The bags contained Rs 32 lac in cash, it is said.

DCP Dharmaiah and other police personnel rushed to the spot.

Protest at Pumpwell

When police were hot on the robbers' trail, a bus unintentionally blocked their path at Pumpwell. Furious at losing precious time, a policeman got out of the vehicle and began to thrash the driver Madhu of Suvarna bus. The incident has snowballed into a controversy, and bus drivers are on a protest at the spot.
