Mangaluru, Nov 27: A person lost lacs of rupees from his bank account after downloading an APK file sent via WhatsApp, leading to the filing of an FIR at the Central Crime Station in the city.

The victim reported that on Sunday, November 24, he received a message on WhatsApp from an unknown number. Along with the message, an APK file named vahan.parivahan.apk was sent, which contained information about traffic rule violations. Upon downloading the file, 16 OTPs (One Time Passwords) were received on his mobile. The victim stated that he did not share the OTPs with anyone. However, messages soon followed indicating unauthorized transactions using his credit and debit cards.

The victim said, "Using my credit card, Rs 30,400 was charged on Flipkart and Amazon; Rs 16,700 was deducted from my debit card, and Rs 71,496 was transferred via Pay Later service. I immediately blocked both my debit and credit cards."

Despite blocking the cards, unknown individuals continued to use the victim’s Axis Bank account to make purchases on Flipkart, including a Rs 39,398 OnePlus mobile, a Rs 32,098 Motorola mobile, Rs 12,800 worth of AirPods, as well as Flipkart vouchers worth Rs 14,700 and Rs 29,000, and an Amazon gift voucher worth Rs 3,000. All these purchases were made using a New Delhi address. In total, Rs 1,31,396 was fraudulently transferred from his Axis Bank account, the victim stated in his complaint.

Police are investigating the incident based on the complaint filed by the victim.

Since 2014 the country and its citizens are used to be getting fooled & cheated. There was not much of digital cheating prior to 2014.

Great Digital, all linked (a/c, pan, adhaar, mobile) payment system! Then to prevent all these frauds and to eliminate cards due of misuse or loss, all information containing single chip in hand or forehead (written in the Book of Revelation Ch 13:16-18) for automatic processing / deducting like vehicle toll tags! with Digital currency and with all linked accounts can be Zeroed if carbon credit and social credit systems breached (if drive more than 15km in the name of Zero Carbon or climate crisis or socially do not behave properly.) Globalist elite (Klaus Schwab, Bill Gates, Soros, Rothchilds, Rockefellars,...) enslaving Advanced surveilance control system popping up everywhere worldwide ?

What surprises me is, when we genuinely want to transfer some 2 lakhs or 10 lakhs, the net banking system imposes a limit per transaction or limit per day and also cooling period. Then how come such huge transactions are allowed in a matter of a day or two

As I mobile app developer I am telling you this : An app can access your contact numbers, photo, files, SMS OTP, location, network, battery percentage, phone model, Android Version etc. When you upload an App to Google Play Store, they will get to know what all features we are accessing from a user's phone and we need to declare why are we accessing those information. Otherwise they will not approve the app. That is why these fraudsters, don't upload the app to Playstore and send APK files. Most of the phones issue warning before installing APK file, but we can ignore and install APK files. APK concept is not there in iOS phones. Apple requires all app on their App Store. Scrutiny in iOS is more strict. In this case this is what happened : He installed the app by giving his basic information (obviously he entered his mobile number). Hackers got to know his installation from backend. Using his information they initiated transactions, bank sent OTPs and the installed APP sent OTPs to hackers. Now a days if u know a person's mobile number you can easily find out his UPI address since it ends with @oksbi, @ybl, @icici and couple of more. So beware of unknown APK files.
