Mumbai, Nov 27: A 25-year-old Air India pilot was found dead in her apartment in Andheri, Mumbai, in what police suspect to be a case of suicide. The victim's boyfriend has been arrested on charges of abetment following a complaint by her family.
The deceased, identified as Srishti Tuli, was discovered hanging in her rented flat at Kanakia Rainforest building in Marol on Monday. Police stated that she allegedly used a data cable to take her own life. No suicide note was recovered from the scene.
Tuli’s boyfriend, Aditya Pandit (27), was detained on Tuesday after her family lodged a formal complaint. According to the police, Tuli’s uncle alleged that Pandit frequently harassed her, publicly humiliated her, and exerted pressure on her to alter her dietary preferences, including giving up non-vegetarian food.
The investigation revealed that Tuli had called Pandit in the early hours of Monday while he was traveling to Delhi by road. During the call, she reportedly expressed her intention to end her life.
Pandit immediately returned to Mumbai but found her apartment locked. After calling a locksmith to gain entry, he discovered Tuli hanging. She was rushed to SevenHills Hospital in Andheri, where doctors pronounced her dead.
Police sources disclosed that Tuli hailed from Uttar Pradesh and had been residing in Mumbai since June last year. She met Pandit two years ago during a commercial pilot training course in Delhi, and the two began dating soon after.
Pandit has been charged under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for abetment of suicide. He was presented before the court, which remanded him to police custody until November 29.
Investigations are ongoing to uncover further details surrounding the incident.
