Sullia: Stone Pelting on Police Station - BJP Leaders among 15 Arrested

Daijiworld Media Network – Sullia (SP)

Sullia, Dec 16: Police have arrested 15 people, including some BJP leaders, in connection with a stone pelting incident on the local police station on Wednesday night.

The arrested have been remanded to judicial custody till December 29 after being produced before the judge of the court here. Protesting against what it terms as police atrocity, Hindu Hitarakshana Vedike has given a call for silent protest on Friday December 16.

Those who have been remanded to judicial custody include town panchayat vice president, Prakash Hegde, BJP leaders, P K Umesh, Dinesh Kumar, Guruprasad, Bhanuprakash, Kishen Kumar, Kiran Kumar, Satish Gowda, and others. It is learnt that the police are on the lookout for more persons in connection with the incident.

Inspector general of police (western range), Pratap Reddy, said in a press conference that the people were wrong in stoning the police station, even after the police personnel took action in the case. He said that the police had no other go but to cane and arrest the people, as the crowd went berserk. Superintendent of police (SP), Labhu Ram, was present at the press conference.

It may be recalled that a crowd had intercepted a car in which Abdul Hamid from Paivalike, and Iqbal from Uppala Kannengala, were travelling with two Jharkhand-based ladies, Shobharani and Pabharani, to Mysore in a car. These two men, who had earlier been in prison relating to their alleged involvement in fake note racket, are said to have come in contact with the ladies during their stay in the jail. These men had hired a car from Manjeshwar supposedly for securing jobs for the two women.

Over 500 people, who were shouting slogans, had gathered in front of the police station when zilla panchayat member, Navin Rai, along with some other leaders, was holding talks with the police. The police had to cane the crowd to disperse them, when they suddenly turned wild and pelted stones at the station when arrangements were being made to transport the girls to the remand home in Mangalore. Four police personnel, including two women constables, were hurt in the incident. The window panes of the car in which the women were travelling, were also damaged. Some cars and bikes in the region suffered damages, while a person named Gangadhar Elimale suffered fracture in his leg while trying to save himself from lathi charge.

Additional police contingents have been rushed to the town to maintain law and order. Additional SP, Prabhakar, Puttur inspector, Sudarshan, deputy SP, Nagaraj, local circle inspector, Taranath, and sub-inspectors from neighbouring stations, have been helping to restore and maintain peace in the town.

Hindu Hitarakshana Vedike also convened a press conference in the town on Thursday to condemn police action.

In the meanwhile, Nagaraja B, a D category employee of the community health centre here, has alleged that the police, who visited the centre after midnight on Wednesday, had beaten him up. He alleged that the police had forcibly taken him away to the police station without even bringing it to the notice of his higher ups, and mentally tortured him there.

Condemning this incident, all the officials of the taluk health department held a dharna in front of the hospital on Thursday. They availed of half-a-day’s casual leave, and wore black badges. President of Health Department Employees Union, Janardhan Kanakkur, president of Senior and Junior Health Assistants Association, Vasudeva Nayak, Karnataka Government Employees Association state council member, Dayalu Pai, and president of Employees Association, Chidanand Adtale, led the protestors.

Curb the hardcore Hindutva’s criminal activities of moral policing before they become a Frankenstein. Like the Taliban and Al-Qaida in Pakistan, the Bajrang Dals and the Vishwa Hindu Parishaths are terrorizing the innocent citizens of the country, particularly the poor minorities. Anna Hazare should address on this menace. Jai Hind!

Rathna Sullia....To take "Cognizant" of such issues, there is separate department(POLICE)made available in democratic set system. However, if police failed to do so, honorable court is there.Resorting in violence, stone throwing to police station is condemnatory act.Besides eve teasing is wide spread not in Sullia,Karnataka,India and beyond.Your contention for the violence against the system and importantly in the home turf of CM and by own party man in particular shows WRITING ON THE WALL.....

Rakshith, Udupi: As i had mentioned earlier, there was a particular incident that on that day prior to this one.Let us not drag those details into this forum. You are absolutely correct that stone throwing is not the solution. As you know, there were lot of police complaints filed in the case of cyanide Mohan's victims and we all readers of Daiji know what happened at the end.The locals wanted to avert that here also butt he way they acted was wrong.public fury went out of control and matter was solved very quickly and amicably. This has nothing to do with Sullia being our CM's home town.

The happening at Sullia is shocking. In reply to Ismail it is said that it was settled amicably. The question is whether anyone has the right to take law into their own hands? There are conflicting versions of this report. The Hindu says the ladies were Christian and boys Muslim. What we should conclude. In any case if people suspected them they should have informed the police and if they ped them at Police Stations, then let the Police complete their investigation. One reads such incidents regularly and they have not stopped after the Church attacks.

    @ Ratan, Sullia
Eve-teasing by whom my dear, they are all your friends and at the same time you are not able to complain to the authority, because the person involved is a close aid of seniors. What the police can do at this point of time?

    @Ratan
Eve-teasing is not the local issue of
Sullia. It is there all over India.Unless women themselves stand up against eve-teasing and file complaints, police will not act.Stone throwing is not the solution.

This is what happens when you let go those Hindutva thugs when they were stoning the churches. In India there are Two Rules, One for the so called nationalists (Hindutvas and the Upper Castes) and another for the so called anti-nationalists (The Minorities and the Backward Castes). In fact the former are the one who take advantage of nationalist tag and loot our country, get extra-ordinary favours from Govt as well as various sanctioning departments plus they exploit the backward class/minorities.
We need reforms in all sections. CBI in general should become an independent constitutional body but its handling of Corruption Department should come under Lokpal. The Black Money should be brought back to India and plan to utilize it for the best of our economy and growth.
    Jai Hind!

Please be cognizant of the local issues of Sullia before commenting. Young women can not freely go by bus due to eve-teasing and police is not doing anything. Actually, this particular incident was solved later between police and locals amicably. Please dont comment just for the sake of commenting. You are acting like a 'commentator of commentory' now a days.

IT IS BECAUSE OF SOME HIGHER UPS IN POLICE STATION NEGLECT PEOPLE'S CONCERN AND LOWER CONSTABLE CATAGORY HAS TO SUFFER ON PEOPLES ANGER. SO EVERYTIME LOWER LEVEL HAS TO APPLY THEIR MIND WHILE OBEYING ORDERS OF HIGHER UPS SUITABLY HINTING THE MATTER TO THE NEXT HIGHER UPS SO THAT GRADUALLY SUCH TYPE OF ATROCITIES ON PUBLIC BY THE POLICE CAN BE REDUCED.

Law and order problem which should dealt with out fear and favor. It is a irony that CM's home turf had these kind of disturbances. What is the role of BJP local unit when their own party ruling in Bangalore?!BJP walas still did not learn lesson from the past mistakes. It(BJP) may be frustrated with the events unfolding against it's existence in Bangalore which was done by it's own cadre. Sanghparivar's moral policing and atrocity against minority in and around Dakshina Kannada need to be checked by appropriate authority before it crosses LAKSHMANA REKHA which may lead to again Law and order problem.
