Mangaluru, Nov 28: St Agnes School (CBSE), proudly organized the AICS Kho-Kho Tournament—AGNO KHOQUEST 2K24, an exhilarating event for the junior category (under-14 boys and girls), on November 23, at St Agnes College Grounds.
The day commenced with a grand guard of honour and a ceremonial welcome for the dignitaries, led by the school’s vibrant band. The dignitaries for the inaugural event included Sr Julie Ann AC, provincial secretary of the Apostolic Carmel Congregation, Karnataka province, as the president of the programme; Sr Dr Maria Roopa AC, joint secretary of St Agnes Institutions, as the chief guest; Suraj, observer for the Kho-Kho tournament; and Liston Derric D’Souza, PTA vice president. They were warmly escorted by Sr Maria Sarika AC, principal of St Agnes School (CBSE).
The proceedings opened with a soulful prayer, setting a serene tone for the day, followed by a captivating welcome dance performed by students, infusing energy and excitement into the atmosphere. The tournament was inaugurated in a vibrant ceremony by releasing balloons into the sky, symbolizing the soaring spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie. Sr Julie Ann AC inspired participants by emphasizing the Olympic motto, 'Faster, Higher, Stronger'. She commended the school for hosting such a grand event and encouraged the young athletes to uphold the spirit of sportsmanship.
The inaugural programme was compered by Lian Sarah Rego and Fathima Riha, with Vijetha D’Souza extending a warm welcome and Shanthi Monteiro delivering the vote of thanks.
With 20 enthusiastic teams competing, the matches showcased exceptional teamwork, skill, and determination. The arena echoed with cheers as players demonstrated their agility and strategic progress in each match.
As the tournament reached its finale, the valedictory programme commenced with a ceremonial guard of honour for the dignitaries, including Liston Derric D’Souza, PTA vice president, as the chief guest; Sr Maria Sarika AC, principal; Sr Meena Fernandes AC, vice principal; and the referees of the event. The rhythmic sounds of the band added to the celebratory atmosphere. A graceful prayer dance by the students lent a spiritual touch to the occasion.
In his address, Liston Derric D’Souza congratulated the winners and commended all participants for their dedication and sportsmanship. He also acknowledged the meticulous planning and efforts of the Principal and staff in executing the event seamlessly.
The valedictory programme was eloquently compered by Megan Veigas, with teacher Kirthi Fernandes giving a warm welcome and teacher Amitha D’Souza proposing a heartfelt vote of thanks.
