Gulf Buntotsava 2024: A grand celebration of Tulu culture, tradition in Dubai

Dubai, Nov 28: The 47th annual gathering of UAE Bunt families was celebrated with enthusiasm and grandeur at the much-anticipated Gulf Buntotsava 2024, held at the Al Nasr Leisureland Ice Rink in Dubai. The event brought together nearly 3,000 people from across the Gulf and beyond, uniting the Bunt community and admirers of Tulunadu’s heritage under one roof.

The day commenced with a traditional procession featuring Tulunadu’s iconic cultural elements such as traditional drums, the vibrant Pili Dance, and the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by distinguished guests. Padma Shri Dr BR Shetty graced the occasion, delivering an inspiring speech on the importance of preserving cultural identity and staying connected to one’s roots.

Attendees in traditional Tulunadu attire created an ambiance that celebrated the rich and vibrant heritage of the region. Dignitaries’ heartfelt speeches highlighted the significance of fostering cultural pride and strengthening the diaspora's bonds.

The event showcased an array of cultural performances, competitions, and entertainment. Folk dances, melodious singing, a fashion show, and Tulunadu's delectable cuisine captivated the audience. Mumbai-based stand-up comedian Nithin Shetty added a festive sparkle with his humor.

A key highlight was the presentation of the prestigious Bunta Vibhooshana 2024 award to Dr K Prakash Shetty, founder chairman of the MRG Group, Bangalore. He was honored for his remarkable contributions to social work, philanthropy, and society's betterment. The award ceremony included a traditional celebratory umbrella escort, symbolizing the community's high regard for his achievements.

Sarvottam Shetty, a visionary leader of the UAE Bunts Association, was also honored for his over four decades of service. Accompanied by his wife, Usha Sarvottam Shetty, he received a standing ovation for his selfless contributions to prominent associations in the UAE.

The program was seamlessly executed by a dedicated organizing team, who expressed gratitude to the community and sponsors for their support. The event was skillfully anchored by Dr Priya Harish Shetty and Nithin Shetty Yekkar, ensuring a lively atmosphere throughout.

Gulf Buntotsava 2024 not only celebrated the rich traditions of Tulunadu but also emphasized the importance of preserving and passing down cultural values to future generations. The event succeeded in strengthening the diaspora's bonds, proving that cultural roots remain a unifying force in a rapidly changing world.
