Mangaluru, Dec 1: Lokayukta Justice B Veerappa visited various locations in the district on Sunday and conducted inspections.
The visit commenced with an inspection of the Mangaluru City Corporation's waste management facility at Pachanadi. Justice Veerappa toured the facility, inspecting its internal operations comprehensively. He personally reviewed the waste segregation and management units, gathering detailed information about each stage of the process. Additionally, he listened to grievances from the workers at the facility. He also visited the unit responsible for converting waste into compost and examined its functioning.
Following the inspection, the Lokayukta issued several directives to the municipal commissioner regarding the facility's operations. He instructed that the water in wells located near the Pachanadi waste unit be tested and that the vegetables grown and milk produced in the surrounding areas be examined. He emphasized the need for precautionary measures to ensure that wastewater from the unit does not flow into nearby areas.
Justice Veerappa urged that the waste management unit be operated in a fully scientific manner, highlighting the potential harm to animals that consume waste. He directed the authorities to take measures to prevent such occurrences.
Hostel inspections
The Lokayukta also visited the hostels managed by the social welfare department at Kodialbail in the city. He inspected the kitchen and storage rooms, reviewing the food supplies. He then interacted with the students, listened to their grievances, and engaged in a dialogue with them.
Justice Veerappa directed the authorities to provide separate study rooms for the students in the hostels.
During his visit, additional district commissioner Dr Santosh Kumar, assistant commissioner Harshavardhan, municipal commissioner Anand, tahsildar Prashanth, and other officials were present.
