Mangaluru: Mandd Sobhann celebrates 23 years of monthly theatre series, launches 'Dhigo Abhiyan'

Media Release

Mangaluru, Dec 2: Mandd Sobhann, Konkani's premier cultural organization, has entered its 39th year of existence. In addition, its Monthly Theatre Series marked a milestone with the completion of 23 years. To garner public support for its Konkani initiatives, Mandd Sobhann launched a fundraising campaign called 'Dhigo Abhiyan' (Support Campaign). The 2024-25 batch of Kalakul students performed the play ‘Aayrik Sayrik’ (Marriage Proposal of Irene) as the 276th program of the Monthly Theatre Series.

Renowned Chartered Accountant Olvin Rodrigues released the pamphlets and coupons for the Dhigo Abhiyan at Kalaangann, Shakthinagar, and extended his best wishes. "Mandd Sobhann has consistently done excellent work for Konkani. They have made many sacrifices and put in a lot of effort for the development of the language and culture. Let us also make some sacrifices and support them," he urged.

The Dhigo Abhiyan offers the opportunity to win a quarter kilogram of gold by purchasing a coupon worth just Rs. 5,000. The more coupons purchased, the greater the support for the organization, and the better the chances of winning. The draw for the campaign will be held on April 20, 2025.

On this occasion, a video of Christmas carols sung by the Sumell team was released. Directed by Vikas Lasrado, the video will be available for viewing on Mandd Sobhann’s YouTube channel.

Retired ADG of Prasar Bharati, Saturnine Mathias, rang the bell to officially start the 276th Monthly Theatre performance. Mandd Sobhann office bearers Eric Ozario, Keron Madtha, Alron Rodrigues, and Ajay D’Souza were present on stage. The event was hosted by Arun Raj Rodrigues.

The play Aayrik Sayrik, written by the late Lancy Pinto Nayak and directed by Manish Pinto (NSD), was performed by the Kalakul students
