Udupi, Dec 5: The Udupi city police handed over Rs 10,620, found with a deceased individual, to the deceased’s family.
Assistant sub-inspector Subhash Kamath and head constable Malinga summoned the family to the station and returned the amount, which had been recovered from the deceased’s possession.
A few days ago, an unidentified man was discovered in a collapsed and helpless state at the Udupi city bus stop. Social workers Nityanand Volakadu and Taranath Mesta Shiroor took the man to the district hospital, where doctors confirmed his death.
In their efforts to identify the deceased, the social workers searched his pockets and found an address slip along with Rs 10,620 in cash, which they promptly handed over to the police. The deceased was later identified as Somnath from Karwar.
Social worker Nityanand Volakadu was present during the handover.
