Mangaluru, Dec 5: Umesh Shet, a resident near Ballabagh, Sri Devi College Road, Mangaluru, is facing a dire threat of his house collapsing.

The structure, which has stood for 11 years next to a storm drain with a retaining wall, developed a crack in the yard a month ago. Shet immediately alerted the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) Commissioner, but no action was taken.

On December 2, part of the retaining wall gave way, narrowly avoiding a tragedy. In the wake of the collapse, corporator Sudheer Shetty and an engineer visited the site, placing sandbags under the exposed pillar. MLC Ivan D'Souza also assessed the situation.

The collapse has left the family with a single, unstable entrance. "The house is now supported by just one pillar, which could fall at any moment," Shet said.

With the entrance compromised, moving belongings has become a challenge. Shet is urgently calling on authorities to step in and prevent further damage before it’s too late.

There should be accountability for government and Municipal officials, if something goes wrong the compensation amount should be deducted from their salaries. There are many judgements of Hon.Supreme Court regarding this.
