Byndoor: Court directs release of Rs 20 lac seized by income tax department

Byndoor, Dec 5: The civil judge and judicial magistrate first class (JMFC) court in Byndoor has ordered the release of Rs 20 lac seized in connection with Crime No. 43/2023 under PF No 23/2023. The cash had been confiscated by the Byndoor police in a case filed by the Income Tax Department.

The court issued the order following an application filed under Section 451 of the CrPC by the Union of India, represented by assistant director of income tax (investigation) Jaby Charles Derick, aged 50, of the Income Tax Office, Pandeshwar, Mangaluru. The application requested the interim release of the seized cash for custody by the Income Tax Department.

Granting the application, the court directed the investigating officer to photograph the cash, with the cost borne by the applicant, and submit the images and negatives/CDs to the court for documentation.

The order was issued on November 30, and the Byndoor police have been instructed to comply with the directive.
