Karkala, Dec 6: Residents of Inna village staged a day-and-night protest against the construction of a tower for the installation of a 400 kV electricity line from Yellur to Kerala as the contracted company prepared to commence work.
Congress leader Muniyalu Udaya Kumar Shetty stated, “A project that is unnecessary should not be implemented. When protests occurred in Kerala, underground cables were installed. We are not against development, but it should not inconvenience the public. The Deputy Commissioner should interact with the villagers and devise a suitable plan. Under no circumstances will we allow the construction of a tower at Inna.”
Protesters demonstrated their solidarity by cooking and sharing meals at the protest site. Notable attendees included former Inna Gram Panchayat president Kusha Moolya, entrepreneur Ganapati Hege, and members of the protest committee, such as Amarnath Shetty, Chandrahas Shetty, Subodh Rao, Keshava Shettigar, Deepak Kotian, Shankar Shetty, Yogish, Deepak Kamath, Divakar Shetty, Prakash Moolya, Harish Shetty, Jaya Kotian, and other Congress leaders.
