Udupi, Dec 6: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has ordered an immediate inspection of accident-prone areas along National Highway 66 (NH-66), following concerns raised by Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Kota Srinivas Poojari over poor infrastructure design.
In a meeting with the minister, Poojari highlighted key problem areas, including Nanthoor Junction in Mangaluru, the Ambalpady flyover in Udupi, and the underpass near Brahmavar Akashvani junction. These sites have become notorious for traffic snarls and accidents, causing major inconvenience to commuters.
Poojari called for a high-level engineering committee to review these issues and recommend corrective actions, including the reconstruction of problematic infrastructure along the highway.
Gadkari instructed officials to inspect these black spots, gather video reports, and provide a comprehensive analysis. He also assured that funds from the Central Road Fund (CRF) would be allocated to address road repairs in Brahmavar, Kota, and Kundapura.
The minister urged the swift completion of key projects like the Kalyanpura-Santhekatte stretch and Indrali bridge, which are vital to easing traffic flow in the region.
The meeting was attended by several local leaders, including Lok Sabha members Brijesh Chowta, Manjunath, Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna, businessman G Shankar, and BJP leader Suresh Nayak.
