Online gambling call centre busted in Gurugram; 3 arrested


Gurugram, Dec 6 (IANS): The Gurugram Police busted an illegal call centre that was running betting through an online app, an official said on Friday, adding three persons have been arrested in this connection.

The three individuals were arrested from a residential society located in Sector-103, the police said. They have been identified as Vinod Kumar, Vineet and Nirup Bahadur.

The police have recovered five laptops, 19 mobile phones, 19 ATM cards and other items from their possession.

According to the police, they received information on Thursday regarding an online gambling racket which was active in Ansal Estella society through an online gaming app and transferring money to banks.

Acting on the information and under the direction of Karan Goyal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) west, Gurugram, the police team conducted raids at the residential society under Rajendra Park police station area, where three persons were found playing online games through an online gaming app using a laptop and mobile phone.

Eventually, all three were apprehended.

"The accused were found playing/promoting online gambling/betting. A case was registered against them under Section 318(4) BNS, Gambling Act and relevant sections of the IT Act at Rajendra Park police station, Gurugram," Goyal said.

The accused used to provide laptops, mobiles and other items to their accomplice and get Rs 20,000 to Rs 30,000 as commission, he said.

The accused used to create IDs for people, and they used to make people deposit money and play online games/betting through online apps, police said.

The accused have been sent to police remand for four days.
