Udupi, Dec 19: The long-cherished dream of the district, which was carved out of the then Dakshina Kannada district in August 1997, to have its own district complex, will be realized on December 25.

Karnataka Chief Minister, D V Sadananda Gowda, will be inaugurating the newly built complex in the presence of ministers, Jagadish Shettar, Dr V S Acharya, V Somanna, former Chief Minister, B S Yeddyurappa, and others.

The complex, built in a spacious 12-acre plot in Manipal, will have office of the deputy commissioner, zilla panchayat, a spacious hall, and all offices coming under the district administration. It is spread over three blocks, built at a cost of about Rs 30 crore, and occupies 1.8 lac square feet. A helipad has also come up in three-acre plot. In addition, a branch of State Bank of India and treasury will be coming here. Dr Acharya feels that so many offices coming under one roof is a record in the state. The hall having a capacity of 500 and other offices that have been built here, are air-conditioned.

Arrangements are being made to run buses to the new complex regularly from Manipal bus stand, till permits are issued by the Regional Transport Authority from Kundapur and Udupi, clarified MLA, Raghupati Bhat. About the use of space vacated by the office of the deputy commissioner and others from Udupi to Manipal after they are shifted here, Dr Acharya said a final decision is yet to be taken, as there are several proposals including construction of mini Vidhana Soudha.

The construction was entrusted to Deviprasad Construction Private Ltd, Kaup, by Karnataka Housing Board. This company has executed the office of the deputy commissioner in Bangalore, while a mega complex of the revenue department at Kempe Gowda Road will get inaugurated during January first week, 2012.

On Sunday, Dr Acharya visited the district complex and inspected the progress. He was accompanied by MlA, K Raghupati Bhat, zilla panchayat president, Katapadi Shankar Poojary, municipal president, Kiran Kumar, additional deputy commissioner, Kumar, zilla panchayat chief executive officer, Prabhakar Sharma, contractor, Vasudeva Shetty, and others.

Sachidanand Shetty, Mundkur/Dubai i fully agree with you. The good development work which we have seen during BJP govt rule, we didnt see that when the secular kangress govt was ruling our state for so many years before. Now few of the commentators like Louis might come with their comments stating that this development work is due to central govt funds and not state govt funds.

Building posh offices is not called "development". If you build houses for the poor and build proper roads that is called development. This is where I liked the action of Jayalalitha (though I am not her fan) when she refused to move to the fancy Assembly building built by the previous government and converted it to a hospital for the poor. Nothing wrong with having a proper office for the district administration. But let us not call it "development".

Dear Vinod and Gerald, it’s not about “Jai ho Tulunadu” but about the word “Development” which some of our best friends those who oppose BJP Government always don’t like to mention because they never seen such things in Congress Government

I had been to this place many times during my vacation, from the time of construction till last October when it was about to finish.Very nice place indeed. Manipal has developed to sky level from a barren land, when there was only Kasturba Hospital and few small shops few years ago. Congatulations to all those who are involved in making this beautiful administrative complex and also making Manipal very beautiful and luxurious tourist centre.
